Do a little test. Capture it with DV Anamorphic settings and drop it into a DV Anamorphic timeline.
If it looks right (not strethched or squished) and there are no black borders anywhere then that’s the way to do it!
If there’s something wrong with that image come back and explain what’s wrong and we’ll be able to tell you what to do with it.

Well, we have no idea what Intel chips the next Powermacs will use. Without that information it’s kind of difficult to make a guess like that. We’ll have to wait and see.

Well, you have to wait for the universal version. If you’re buying G5s you won’t need that. I’d wager that by the time you decide to get rid of those G5s you’ll already have moved on to FCP 6 so the fact that you have a Power-PC-only version of 5 probably won’t matter one bit.
But yes, it’s looking like Apple’s not interested in selling that to you. But others will. As was said earlier, Amazon can probably help. If they can’t check out Powermax or Smalldog. Someone will have it.

Honestly I think you’re aiming too high. All of those cameras offer many features that you would never need or use for the kind of use you’re looking for.
A Sony VX-2100 (or used VX-2000) might give you a much better price without losing very much that you would actually use.

You may find some info here that helps you, but as a last resort if you don’t I would suggest this: Hire someone else to do this.
It IS possible to key DV footage well but it’s more of an art than a science. If you needed a painting of someone you’d be far better off paying an artist than spending the time to learn to paint. I see this as the same thing given that you have a deadline. You CAN learn to do this yourself but now might not be the time.
Edit your video FIRST and then give ONLY the footage you’re using over to the person to work on (with 1 second of extra footage on either end). They’ll charge you by their time so don’t have them work on more than you need.
It might not come to this, but whenever I have a deadline I like a “Plan Z” to fall back on. You should consider this and start calling people now to find out availability, timing, and price just in case it comes to this.

Since your question has been answerd I hope you don’t mind if I hijack this thread with a related question:
Does anyone know of a master list of programs that already universal? I can’t find anything like that on Apple’s site. Like, I know that all the iLife programs are now, and I hear you can pay to trade in FCP for a Universal disc. But I’d like to have some kind of main list if someone’s keeping track.
Anyone heard of something like that?

Was this shot with the 24p-normal or 24-p-advanced settings?
If it’s just “normal” then stick with a plain old 29.97 NTSC DV timeline. That’s all you need.
If you used the 24pA setting then you need to go search the DVX-100 forum for all the posts on how to deal with that. I can’t help you with that, but hopefully you used the other setting since it’s a very simple fix.

I think what you’ve heard is that mixing different brands of RAM raises the chance that something won’t go quite right and you’ll get freezes and other errors.
But if you’ve bought your new RAM from someplace that promises to pick out the most compatible RAM for your Mac then they’re probably selling something that works well with what Apple uses.
I added 4 GB to my original 512 and I’ve had no problems. I say go for it, but just keep it in mind that if you have lots of unexplained problems you should take the 512 out and see if that fixes it. I doubt you’ll have any problems, though. Just something to keep in mind in case there is a problem later.

I bought my last Mac at a discount once the new ones came out. From the same area of the Apple site that has the refurbs on it, although mine was brand new. They have those in there too sometimes. I often buy Macs this way. I only work with DV so for me it makes sense to save money and be 6-months behind the curve.
But no, I don’t usually see those show up at the announcement. It’s usually after the new ones are already being sold that you see stuff like that come up. And I don’t expect any Powermac announcements in January, so I don’t think it’s a concern. But hey, it’s only a few days away. If you can wait, you might as well, just to see.
For me, I always get Applecare for laptops but never for desktops. But that’s me…It’s up to you to decide if it’s worth it for you. Since you’ve indicated that you’ll be new Mac user that might be a good reason to go for it. Out of any random 100 problems I probably know how to deal with 98 of them. For yourself, that number is likely a lot lower so having extended phone support just might be worth the price.
Granted, you can always come here for help for free but sometimes we don’t answer right away! Being able to get help instantly or simply go into any Apple store with your computer and get it looked at can really be worth a lot. (You can, of course, get all of this from Apple or 3rd party shops without Applecare, but any major problem will end up costing more than if you had Applecare.) Really, it’s kind of a gamble, so no one can really advise you one way or the other.
