Well, I don’t use system sounds… hate ’em!
And I only have sound from one app at a time when working, so if it’s possible, I think I’d be OK with it.-jeff

Try saving it as a PSD file. Looks to me like the alpha is reading as premultiplied w/ white (PShop standard), when it should be premult w/ black for PNGs. I don’t think you can change that in Premiere; I did look at it in Combustion and it exhibited the change from “clean” to “dirty” when I changed the premult. color.

I suspect the problem you are seeing is that the PNG is using un-premultiplied alpha; you should use premultiplied alpha for a smoother overlay.
Try a TGA file (with alpha) instead, or a PSD file on a tranparent BG. PNGs from Pshop sometimes don’t seem to work right.

Probably unique exception: with AJA hardware, you can use QTime for capture, but only to the AJA codecs.

If you right-click on the “My Computer” icon, select “manage”, then go to “Event Viewer”, and look under Application and/or System, you may find an error log from whatever is causing the problem.

The most common source I know of for that problem is a sample rate mis-match. I wouldn’t say it is likely, but you should double-check your hardware/software/firmware settings on your eMu to make sure…
Check your QuickTime (control panel) audio settings too, just for completeness.-jeff

Vincent: Generally good advice on that page, but I take issue with one item, that you should make black 16,16,16 and white 235,235,235.
This is absolutely wrong. The author is confusing SMPTE-601 digital levels with computer RGB levels. If you are working on a computer graphics system (Photoshop or AE, e.g.), black is zero. 100% white is 255. Your output hardware or editing system will do a conversion if needed. Most pro systems give you a choice as to what colorspace your graphics are coming from.
That being said, 100% white, though video legal, is not recommended. White text is usually pegged around 80% white/80 IRE (204,204,204) to minimize ringing and other problems. Black can be black, and if you make it RGB 16, you’ll get gray in a proper workflow.Corrections and arguments to the contrary welcomed,

Richard, you may have considered this:
Get a somewhat cheap 2nd machine as an “offline” edit machine, and use it to edit DV downconverts, use the beefy machine for finalizing.-jeff

Pekin- I suspect & hope the slow response from AJA tech was an anomaly. I emailed them about a non-critical issue, and had a response in a couple of hours.

What happens when you attempt an insert edit?
Do your timecode setting match? (all drop or all non-drop, Machina and tape).What tape machine are you using?
[By the way, support from AJA has been much more responsive than DL from my recent experience]
