    For “lossless”, you will probably need an Input/Output (capture) board such as those made by AJA or BlackMagic. You will also need a large disc array. And, there would still be debate as to what “lossless” means. AppleProRes is not lossless. Typical “uncompressed” video formats are not truely lossless either, as they work in a Yuv color space, and throw away 1/2 the chroma information. Certain boards or devices will capture 10 bit 4:4:4 file streams (DPX is the most common), that would probably be the “most lossless”.

    If you can describe your footage source and workflow, maybe there are other solutions we can suggest…

    Hmmm– I thought it might be a codec issue, but probably not. I’m stumped; sorry I can’t help more. Unless your preview render is different than your “working” render.

    From your original description, I would repeat:
    It is a field issue. If you are doing a still collage, do it in Photoshop.

    Rendering what? Previews? Output?
    What codec are you using, what’s your source footage, etc.?

    As a blind guess: If you are rendering for output with Media Encoder, do not use the “noise reduction” filter. It kills.

    Xena (and Blackmagic, etc.) cards are more for non-DV formats: SD-SDI, SD BetaCam, HD of various sorts. If your setup is working for you with DV over FireWire, then you don’t really need a video I/O card. You might gain more accurate output monitoring vs. what you have now.

  • See if you can interpret the footage to be 640×480 (1.0) at 29.97 FPS, fields=none (progressive). Then the clips can be resized on the DV timeline to 720 wide (probably automatically if you have prefs at default settings). The preview might look a bit blocky, but if you render to DV it should be better. You might need to force a preview render by adding a video effect to the clips.
    That’s all I can think of at the moment. You have an “interesting” (quirky) workflow there, but I would hope you can get CS3 to do what you want.

    Are you sure about this? Standard NTSC DV would be 720×480, 29.97 FPS. A frame size/rate mismatch might be at the root of the problem. Have you tried the NTSC-DV project preset in CS3 ?
    Or is this a “still” camera that shoots QTime? What does Premiere think the clips are– via info in the Project window?
