You don’t mention which editing app you are using (unless I missed it). Playback is also dependent on healthy disc bandwith: I assume you have a RAID setup of some sort?

I recently upgraded to Win7 Pro (64 bit); I still use Combustion. Combustion works OK under this setup; of course it’s still a 32 bit app, so you don’t get to use any more memory than before. But: there is a 64-bit Kona(Xena) driver, so the framebuffer works. The main bug I’ve noticed is that Combustion does not remember UNC paths in the browser. It is OK to use them in comps and net-rendering, you just have to re-navigate when importing new footage. Or, you could just use mapped drive letters. This may be due to my network being without DHCP (I use a small workgroup). Sapphire plugins work, and I have not noticed any more crashes under Win7-64 than XP-32.

I think your problem is that no matter how fast your RAID is, you are accessing it via a 1Gb Ethernet connection. Try copying some clips to your local drive (preferably RAID), and see if there is an improvement.

I also use Photoshop for titles. It sounds like you might be running low on memory.

Update: I loaded in some DSLR footage from a client, and it was previewed in Premiere upside down!
Fortunately, I do mostly visual FX/animation, so everything gets converted to file sequences as step 1. I can confirm the issue, though!-jeff

Do you have your preview format set to render fields? And, of course, are you previewing on a b’cast monitor that supports interlaced material?

Hmm, well. Perhaps it is related to the prior LHe problem. I have a Xena 2K (now Kona3) that seems to work fine with CS5 & Win7-64.
Try calling AJA directly, they have been helpful to me in the past.-jeff

You may get better results by doing a de-interlace rather than frame blending/deFlicker. Exporting from field-based material (interlaced DV)to progressive will always be soft: you’re essentially throwing away 1/2 the vertical resolution.

You didn’t mention: are you using the 5.0 drivers with CS5?
