Good to know Michael, I wondered how I could have missed that in my LCD. Thanks.

OK, good to know. I’ve been shooting with this camera for a couple years now and this was my first time hitting such an indecent. I will have to keep a closer eye on my LCD screen and look for that now. Thanks for the explanation.

  • So is Ray Tracing the only major benefit with CUDA?

OK, at least I’m not crazy. I’ll probably just dub to DVCPRO and then bring it into the system. Thanks for you help everybody! I really appreciate it.

“Switchology”? I tried capturing from a DVCPRO tape and it works just fine. It just seems to be with the passthru of the 8MM tape. Specifically from the deck to FCP because the deck is reading the footage just fine.

Frequent COW contributor Richard Harrington did a video for lynda.com all about video budgeting. You could probably get a 30 Free Trial, although they are well worth the subscription cost. Here is a link:

Wow, sorry Patrick. But thanks for sharing the cautionary tale.

  • Yea, I really like these videos. I saw this one a couple weeks ago on motivating Creative Professionals in the work place. Made a lot of sense to me.

The Creative Cow is a great place to be. You can even post in the job opening forum when you are ready to hire out. Also stay active on LinkedIn. You can find some talent there by searching and building your community of contacts. You can also get plugged in on media groups in local markets. For instance I live in Arizona and there are a couple Media Professional groups that anyone can check out/join/post job openings.

  • I was blown away at NAB when a lot of high end guys talked about cutting on an iMac. I don’t know if you saw Graid’s tent but they had iMacs running four streams of full HD video using a breakout box from mLink and (I think) Nvidia 4000s. I haven’t seen any official releases on this stuff, but that would be plenty for me.

The sad thing is Apple dragging us along, which I hate, but I still have trouble putting my faith in the alternative. Windows 7 has a lot of people excited, but Windows 8 sounds like the disappointment of Windows Vista all over again. And if Windows isn’t moving right, it might make the spendy trip to a new OS/Hardware an expensive disappointment.

I’m uspet with Apple too, I’m planning on switching to Adobe on my next upgrade, but at this point I have too much invested in Apple Hardware and my disappointment with them hasn’t overcome my lack of confidence in Microsft yet. Plus they have Thunderbolt and still make great products, crossing my fingers!

Anyways, that’s my impression so far.
