How did they fix it? I’m having the same issue… and of course on deadline.

We had the same issue when we first did a demo. Here is the solution we came up with.
The shutter is by factory default set to 1/24 a second. It has a strange “rolling shutter” look when shooting 1080 24p. Disappointing at first because we shot a full commercial with this factory setting. Then playing with the camera on an Sony HD monitor back at the station we made some observations and messed with the settings.
On the front of the camera switch the shutter to the “on” position.(duh) Then go into the menu settings and change the shutter speed to 1/48 or 1/50 a second. This smoothed the image out significantly during pans and moving subjects.
After playing with this… we were more then happy with the results and bought 3 to start with.

    I hope this helps.

We shoot 1080 24p for our commercials. Turn the shutter to the “on” position. In the menu change the shutter speed to 1/48 or 1/50 of a second. This looks great and has a “filmic” look… but it’s still video. 1080 60i looks too much like video or “news” to me. It’s really up to personal preferences.

For output to SD for TV:
We then edit in FCP on a sequence that it’s settings are the format that we shot. We do all our editing and color correction in this sequence. We then nest this sequence in a SD sequence for a graphics pass and final output. We have Kona cards so we nest into a 720×486 uncompressed 10bit sequence. FCP does a great job with frame rate conversions. We dub out to DVCPro via SDI with no issues.

    This thread may help.

Use the secret menu to purge what’s in your ram. This will speed up rendering as well. I have this enabled and never have any issues on large, 3d comps.

    Good Luck.

To do the short light burst… I would try Knoll Light Factory from Red Giant. You’d have better control over the light. I would also use an animated matte to control and isolate some bursts.

Hope this helps and gives you some ideas.

To make the motion that is like the one on the website you directed us to… you answered your own question. A big 3d world… lay it out and then animate your camera. It’s always good to rough storyboard a project that is that in-depth so you can plan ahead. Just have a real firm grasp of animating a camera in 3d space. There are a ton of great tutorials on this site.
One tip… good lighting can really bring this type of world to life.

    Good luck.
