If your version of Encore is 1.5 or earlier, then make sure you uncheck “Optimize Stills” both in your Premiere project settings and your Premiere export settings.

I’ve been happy with Encore’s performance when Automatic Transcoding is used for projects 90 minutes or less.

90 minutes give or take a few. It depends on the footage. High-motion footage or footage with a lot of detail like forests and water surfaces will need higher bit rates which will limit the time available. You could get up to 2 hours for stuff like talking heads.

1) Yes.
2) That’s not possible in the DVD-Video specification. Not even Hollywood can do that with standard definition DVDs. You have to get creative with the video and audio to fool your audience. The menu system for Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events is an outstanding example of the this technique.

OK, there shouldn’t be any problem with the blank media. Verbatim is my second choice (Taiyo Yuden is first).
So let’s take a look at what you did in FCP. (I’m a Windows guy, so please fill in the blanks if necessary.) What file format did you choose for exporting the downrezzed video? Did you use FCP or Compressor?
What settings did you use for video export? Frame size? Frame rate? Bit rate?
What format and settings did you use for the audio?

This sounds a lot like a blank media quality problem. What brand of blank media are you using?
Also, you should buy a few RW discs. Test burn your project using an RW disc – no more coasters.

It’s possible that you’ve exceeded the 1 GB menu space limit. How long are the video/audio backgrounds that you use for your menus?
