    Yep…solid advice thank you.
The challenge still remains that rendered footage appears soft and dark!!

    Hi Chris,
So appreciate your taking the time to respond. Thank you.
Are you suggesting that we should choose an Adobe or Apple color space over SDTV NTSC?
The files being imported into AE have an embedded profile listed as SDTV NTSC Y’CBCR but this profile is not listed in AE.
    32 Bit……great tip thank you.
In regards to a codec for rendering the only YUV type option listed is Blackmagic 8 Bit (2VUY). This is a Mac machine so no Windows options or RGB 4:4:4.

    Your thoughts most appreciated.

  • Yes…..a very noticeable darkening and increase in saturation on any thing coming out of CT. A/B the results in AE, FC and Color and all show a clear gamma shift evident by eye but also on the scopes.
Compressor is doing a great job and it’s auto reverse TC function makes CT’s work flow a bit of a joke.
AE does a good job of detecting the pulldown removal but footage rendered from AE is extremely soft and also with a noticeable gamma shift.

  • Good evening Jeremy,
So appreciate you taking the time to write….thank you. I did finally achieve decent results from CT by assessing the source material ‘A’ frame etc however the resulting gamma and chroma shift were un-exceptable.
    Currently exploring other options.

  • OK……so After Effects guessed WWSSW and upon render it is perfect. How would we apple this knowledge in CT???

    Thx

Thank you gentlemen for your replies. Perhaps I got ‘caught up’ in the Apple marketing machine which touts FC / Compressor integration as a type of sliced bread concept.
Regardless Compressor unfortunately simply not up to spectacular MPEG II encoding. Have gone back to the Cinema Craft Encoder on the PC which produces amazing results. Side by side with the CCE files heads and shoulders beyond Compressors output.

    Hi Rich,
    Thank you for your reply.
Why that extra render…..why not go straight to Compressor from the FC timeline?
    Other than my issues obviously.

June 21, 2007 at 7:30 am in reply to: How to tell PCIe from PCIx

    Thank you Yves,
Are situation is this: We have an existing BM Decklink Pro that is about 1 year old that does not fit in the Mac Pro (thank you apple) so we are looking for a replacment card. There are a couple of used cards available locally but the sellers cannot acertain whether they are PCIx or PCIe.
Our understanding is the one we posses is ‘x’ but mac pro requires ‘e’. The physical difference can not be very different since the card we have now very nearly fits but not quite.

    Cheers,

    J
