Before I get into great detail, the thread originator should probably use the forum’s search command, because this issue has been discussed before. The problem with the Shuttle 2 DNxHD MOV files, is that they are created with 16 audio tracks by default. Premiere CS5 could only be made to read these files by turning off the option to import audio. the CS 5.5 version with the most recent patches can read the files, as can the CS 6 version (at least for me). Of course, the DNxHD files in an MXF wrapper are totally unuseable in Premiere.

I know next to nothing about the GH2 also, but without any hacks, it is putting out 24 fps embedded in 60I (24pf). You need a program to remove the pulldown. If you use Google and search for “pulldown removal” you will find numerous tutorials that will match up against your available software.

July 31, 2012 at 7:47 pm in reply to: DaVinci Resolve Lite (Win) won’t import DNxHD MOV files. If you search this forum, you will find a few other threads about this issue, which BTW was fixed in Premiere CS6 and CS5.5 (with the most recent update). If you can’t get the MOV files to open, just turn off the audio in the import settings. The files will then import properly.
Also, I haven’t tried the new Resolve 9 beta, but you could download and install that and see it will read DNxHD MOV files directly.

There is a big difference between the two. MacDrive is invisible to the user for most file operations. Transmac is separate program that you have to run every time you want to access a Mac-formatted drive. Its interface looks a lot like the Windows Explorer. Both are somewhat slower at copying files than a “normal” Windows file copy. That’s just the nature of the extra software layer that’s needed to read and write Mac-formatted drives under Windows.
Other than that, they both seem to do the job for most people.

May 17, 2012 at 4:34 pm in reply to: Hyperdeck Shuttle and new SSD (aka OCZ Vertex 4)I’m not saying this is the reason for dropped frames with the Vertex 4, but you have to wary of manufactureres’ speed claims when it comes to SSDs.

May 12, 2012 at 8:43 pm in reply to: Hyperdeck shuttle HDMI in adding set up to DNxHD file? Thanks for checking all that. I have been pretty sure that the color issue with the Hyperdeck DNxHD MOV files is on the NLE side and not caused by the Shuttle itself. It seems that it has to do with how certain brands/versions of software read the metadata in the MOV file. Some interpret it correctly and some don’t.

CS?
ProRes 422 will play on either CS5 and CS5.5, if the file has only 2 audio channels. ProRes clips with more than 2 audio channels will NOT play in either CS5 or the initial release of CS5.5. They will work with the most recent update to PPro CS5.5.
This issue also affects DNxHD files from the Hyperdeck series. A workaround for the DNxHD issue and PPro has been previously posted and it might work for the ProRes MOV files also (I only have a Hyperdeck Shuttle, so I can’t test it for you). Open the MOV file with the QT Player Pro. Disable the audio tracks in Movie Properties, then just save the file. No re-encoding will be done. You can always go back and enable the audio by reversing the process with the QT Player.

I did check it. Using QT Player Pro to disable audio does allow AE CS5.5 to open the files.

“(To open DNxHD.mov files in AE, just disable sound of the file using QuickTime ; it works with AE CS5)”
Good tip. It’s the 16 tracks of audio that cause the built-in AE Quicktime Importer to fail. I’ll have to try it. This has been a known issue with the CS5 versions of Premiere Pro and AE and the CS5.5 version of AE. The importer was fixed in the CS5.5 version of PPro, but that I/O plugin is not compatible with CS 5.5 AE.

What I noticed with my Intensity Pro is that I now another capture device in VLC called BMD WDM and it works properly with VLC. The original Decklink device still shows up, but that never worked properly for me.
