It isn’t so much of a new feature that I’d like, but rather I’d like to see more from the company in terms of communication about tested drivers for video output devices and new devices. The release notes for v2.1 lists driver versions that are quite outdated and there’s no mention of Thunderbolt device compatibility.

I wish I had better news for you, but it seems like they’re making progress. Below is the response I got from Joe at Matrox:

    “Hi Jason,

It’s good that you wrote in for an update. I was able to get some information for you.

The latest update is that we have been in direct communication with Mr. Boris Yamnitsky (founder of Boris software) regarding this issue. So we’re still in the process of working together to help find a solution asap. I will keep you updated and hopefully you will be able to start using your Matrox hardware once again.

    Regards,

    Joe”

I’ve had this issue with my MXO2 LE and Media 100 for quite a while now and have been in touch with the Matrox support department. They are aware of the issue of stuttering video with Media 100, but do not yet have a fix for it. I emailed Joe in their support department this morning for an update and will let you know what I hear.

Currently, I have a useless $1500 MXO2 LE with Max sitting in my closet. Luckily I held on to my trusty old Kona LHe card as a backup 😉

I wish I had better news for you Gerry! Hopefully, I’ll get an update from them today.

Export it as an h.264 file and set the max video bitrate to 5Mbps. We get great results with that setting and it keeps the file sizes down!

February 2, 2012 at 6:14 pm in reply to: Is Lion 10.7.3 Media100 friendly?

I’d hold off if I were you. People are reporting a nasty bug with 10.7.3 that causes applications to crash right after they’re launched.

I like to wait until Media 100 gives their blessing on updates… been burned in the past by being too anxious with OS updates 😉

    Matt,

A while back I was having similar issues as you with our KPM. AJA tech support had me fully reset our unit back to factory configuration and that completely fixed the issues I was experiencing. There’s a general reset in the menu, but the support guy had me do a specific key combination to do the factory reset. Unfortuantely I can’t remember what that exact procedure is, but if you call tech support, they can walk you through it. I’ve found AJA tech support to be top-notch, a human being actually answers the phone!

Hope this helps you a bit… I understand your fear & frustration!

August 17, 2011 at 5:35 pm in reply to: Update on Lion-compatible version of Media 100?

Thanks so much for the quick and thorough update Dave! I figured that Lion was throwing a few curveballs at the engineers, was just curious as to where things stood.

While I use the ProRes codec for all of my current projects, Apple’s breaking the Media 100 codec in the recent software updates would definitely cause a headache if I needed to open any legacy projects. Good thing my main system is still at 10.6.7. Hopefully Mr. Jobs hasn’t decided that the world no longer needs to use MJPEG-B codecs! LOL

    Thanks again!

July 13, 2011 at 12:04 pm in reply to: any way to read media 100 video files circa 2001?

…Unlike FCP X, which can’t read files produced just a few months ago by FCP 7.

We’ve always liked Presentation Prompter. Easy to use, accepts different file formats and costs only $65.

April 19, 2011 at 3:35 pm in reply to: Storing client media files

We typically archive our clients’ media to two raw mirrored hard drives. One of the drives is stored in a fireproof safe at the office and the other is stored in a fireproof safe in an off-site location. That way we know the data is safe if disaster strikes in one of the locations. Every couple of months we spin up the drives to make sure everything is ok. We use DiskCatalogMaker to keep a record of where everything is.

We considered archiving to LTO tape, but liked the mirrored hard drive method because it is affordable, data is kept in two locations, and the media can be quickly copied to the system when it is needed by using a drive dock.

    Hope this helps!
