I was never able to get our MXO2 LE to work reliably with Media 100 in Mavericks, even with the beta driver. While my MacBook Pro was recently at Apple repair, I had to temporarily edit on our 2008 Mac Pro. With the beta driver, there was no audio output from the Matrox box and Media 100 was quite unstable. I ended up having to disconnect the MXO2 LE in order to reliably use Media 100.

With that said, is any one in the market for a Matrox MXO2 LE Max with PCI and ExpressCard interfaces? 😉

Yes, the AJA T-Tap works perfectly with Media 100 in Mavericks! I’m using it with my 2011 17 inch MacBook Pro.

Make sure you use the 10.6.1 driver, though. According to Floh, the new 12.1 unified driver does not work with Media 100.

It’s the Matrox MXO2 that’s giving you issues. Unfortunately, Matrox never released a Mavericks driver for QuickTime-based video editing software like Media 100 and FCP 7. They only did updates for FCP X, Premiere Pro CC, etc.

I read on their forum that they did create a beta driver for FCP 7 and Mavericks that should hopefully also work with Media 100, but you’ll have to contact their support department in order to get it.

If you do end up getting the beta driver from them, would you mind posting here to let us know if it ended up working for you? I had to switch to an AJA T-Tap because of Matrox’s lack of a Mavericks driver and only heard recently about this beta driver.

Just got off a troubling live chat with Jon Kozenko from Boris FX technical support. I asked him when they expected to release a Yosemite-compatible version of Media 100. Here’s how it went down:

Jon: Hello Jason. Unfortunately, a Yosemite version of Media 100 is very likely never to come out.

Me: Oh man, that’s very concerning to hear, considering that you are still selling the Media 100 software on the Boris site! There should be a notification on the site about this.

Jon: I certainly will bring this up with both the Webmaster and Management.

Me: Thank you, but please send my feelings of disappointment to management. There are still quite a few Media 100 users that have been hoping for a Yosemite-compatible version.

So that’s the word straight from almost the horse’s mouth (other than Boris himself) 🙁

What’s strange is that the Boris site shows 2.1.4 is available, but when you go to download it, version 2.1.3 downloads!

Hey Floh, any updates on the testing and when the Mavericks-compatible version will be released? 😉

Last year Boris was pretty quick to release a Mountain Lion compatible version of Media 100, so hopefully it will be the same this year. I just sent them an email asking when they expect to announce compatibility with Mavericks and will post whatever info they send me.

Don’t forget to verify compatibility with your video output device manufacturer too! Blackmagic Design announced compatibility yesterday… not sure about AJA or Matrox.

We use ShotPut Pro to copy & verify files from the cards to a mirrored hard drive. Great piece of mind with this workflow!

August 20, 2012 at 8:17 pm in reply to: DIgitizing for Final Cut

Just curious why Media 100 still digitizes (and imports) clips into separate video and audio files instead of just creating one file like Final Cut does. I know it was necessary back in the day when we had a drive for video and another for audio, but now it’s just not needed. A single file would make Gary’s situation a heck of a lot easier.

    Just my two cents 😉
