I don’t know if you’re on a laptop or desktop, but you can also hit the “function” key on the bottom left of the keyboard when you hit a key like F10 and you will get its FCP use.

I don’t know about dragging clips, but when you make an OVERWRIGHT or INSERT edit either with a keyboard shortcut or dragging a clip from the VIEWER to the CANVAS, simply click on you audio tabs on your timeline. This disconnects your source from your destination and when you make the edit only your video will appear on your timeline. Hope this helps.
