    Greetings all-
This is a really basic and probably silly question.
How do I get the keyboard commands in FCP to work?
All the regular keys work, command z etc. But when I try to use “F” buttons I only get their base function. Like F10 mutes my volume, but I want it to do an overwrite edit.

I am sure this is something really simple I am over looking.

    Any feedback would be great.

    thanks

Go to System Preferences/Keyboard and switch on F keys for applications.

    All the best,

    Tom

I don’t know if you’re on a laptop or desktop, but you can also hit the “function” key on the bottom left of the keyboard when you hit a key like F10 and you will get its FCP use.

    Hi, Tom,

Thanks for the info about getting the F Keys to work. Unfortunately, that doesn’t work for me.

I’m running Mac OS 10.6.8 and FCP 7.0.3

I’ve done it the way you suggest in earlier versions, but for some reason I can’t make it work now. Any suggestions?

    thanks!

on my laptop keyboard (and the bluetooth keyboard I use with it) hitting the function key and F10 just makes my FCP windows small, so I can see my desktop behind it. changing my preferences simply means that hitting F10 *without* the function key minimizes my windows, and hitting it with makes my screen brighter. I can’t seem to get the F10 to simply make an edit, even though that’s the function that’s mapped. it’s maddening.
