I actually was able to find a program called “Aimersoft Total Media Converter” which worked pretty
well. Transferred them to Quicktime files with the highest resolution being 1280×720
with the H.264 encoder. I made the bit rate 1200 kbps. Footage looks good but I’m not sure how it compares to the original .MTS files. There are also options to convert to .ASF, various .MPEG Versions, .MKV and XVID AVI. I’m doing the right thing by just making them .MOV files for the best quality to edit/export from FCP, correct?
Sorry, this whole conversion things drives me batty!
