Sorry – I was too shook up to be clear: yes, I was on the beta version of Resolve 9 released last week! I’ve uninstalled and returned to v8 for now, but of course, that means dealing with the resurrection of the previous database using Terminal. What a day …

Yeah, this is a maddening problem: every time I review a clip and go back to the Media Browser it has to refresh from scratch, apparently because there is no cache. Adds hours and hours to the day!
Any chance of a solution to this? Todd Kopriva? Anybody??
Thanks!

Sorry – should have closed this earlier today when I heard from Boris. It turns out the version that shipped with my box set was pre-CS6, so of course, CS6 didn’t see it! All’s well – thanks!

March 31, 2012 at 2:23 pm in reply to: FCP 7 suddenly video in Viewer & Canvas incredibly dark/severe gamma. And for those of you who are following this thread because of suddenly, inexplicably dark FCP7 AND X images in the Viewer and Canvas, it’s not just Colormunki, but also at least one other calibration system, X-Rite’s iDisplay Pro. I’ve just run across this thread, and so haven’t actually applied what I hope it a solution, but I’ve been having the same experience, and only after reading the above realized that the sudden extreme darkness occured following a re-calibration of my monitors using X-Rite. I’ve switched to Premiere Pro recently, and so didn’t catch the problem with FCP7 until I had to return to an earlier project and voila: unbelievably dark images, even though the scopes look fine and the xmp-ed version into PP looks fine there. It’s clearly a FCP/X-Rite problem.

Ironically, it’s in Blackmagic’s best interest to support the Avid controller: while they may miss a very few sales of the DaVinci unit (the price difference is such that there can be only a few people considering one verses the other), they are likely to gain a number of Apple Color converts who had invested in the MC Color controllers.
So far my MC Color is working really well with Resolve, except as I say, the CG1 > PG1 memory buttons and of course the Transport.
Cheers!

December 1, 2011 at 10:35 pm in reply to: Avid Artist Transport Controller with DaVinci? Both Jog and Shuttle don’t work on the MC Transport to control DaVinci Resolve. Everything else, including the numeric pad, I’ve been able to program. So that means, MC Transport does NOT automatically select shots – I just programmed each number so that, for example, hitting #1 memorizes whatever grade I have up, and hitting Shift-#1 applies that grade to whatever shot I’ve selected next.
Similarly, I programmed each of the soft buttons ringing the jog wheel to do what they need to: from left, Go to previous clip, Rewind, Play in reverse, Stop, Play forward, Fast forward, and Go to next clip.
It would be nice to see Avid and BM get together to make this device, which I think has a great feel, and a solid build-quality, more useful for Resolve.

November 30, 2011 at 9:24 pm in reply to: Avid Artist Transport Controller with DaVinci? Thanks, Dwayne – So I guess programming the 13 softbuttons on the Transport is no problem, and that does give me my normal Play, Stop, Fast Forword, etc., controls, plus a bunch of misc. commands. Just no shuttle or jog.
While we’re on the topic, though, any idea how I can program the CG1 > PG1-type commands for copying grades? Right now I have them loaded into the Transport’s numberic pad, which actually works pretty well, but it does leave me with eight lonely-looking buttons on the MC Color!
Cheer!

I know this has been awhile, but I just wanted to thank you for this generously thorough reply, straightening-out the Avid MC Color/Davinci protocol. I was going nuts …
Thanks a lot!

November 12, 2011 at 9:28 pm in reply to: Configuring both a GTX470 and a Quadro in a MacPro 3,1Well, I’ve got my dual displays running off the Q4000, theoretically with the GTX470 only doing CUDA. I still get a bit of stuttering in PP, and I’m starting to wonder if it’s that I have my BlackMagic card in a PCI extender box, running at only 4X, where BM suggests a position in Slot 1 for best performance … Only so many Slot 1’s, you know?
Anyway, the Displayport-DVI adapter cable that came with the Q4000 worked fine for the second display, and Clayton’s power-stealing scheme worked great for adding a second power-hungry card to the MP 3,1.
Cheers!

As a newbie colorist making the move from Apple Color, may I just say what a generous, thoughtful response this is, OHV. It’s seems like the best of what this forum offers. Nice.
