Thanks Dave, that sheds some light on my confusion. That makes sense.
But what about the few tasks I described..Color correction (magic bullet) and twixtor (speed change)..Like I said I’m able to pull up either plugin in both programs..Should I use AE for these tasks or Premiere?

Nice stuff! How long did it take you to get Twixtor doing what you wanted it to do?
I’ve been at it for a few days and haven’t had any luck with my results.
Awesome job tho, clean

Thanks Graham. I pretty new to after effects and never thought of it that way. I just assumed the way I was doing it the right way, with Premiere and AE open at the same and going back and forth.
I’d much rather try to render it out then throw it in AE.
But this leads me to one more question..Is there any benefit to using a plugin (thats available for both Premiere and AE) in AE over Premiere or vice versa? When I installed Twixtor in AE I noticed it intsalled itself in Premiere as well. same goes for Magic bullet looks…
Is there any difference from using these plugins within AE compared to Premiere? And whats the point of going to AE for these plugins if they are also available within Premiere and able you to do the same stuff?
Sorry for all the questions…I just went out of my way to start to get AE going but I’m finding that I dont really need it?

December 1, 2010 at 7:48 am in reply to: 1080p HD exporting settings to upload to You TubeI’ve always used these presets and my video always happened to be 720p.
Now I just went to edit some 1080p to export to youtube and just finally noticed that the YoutubeHD preset is default to 720p.
I think I’m an idiot but how the heck do you change the resolution? Im on the video tab and I’m typing in 1920 on the first box, but before I can get to the 2nd box it gives me the error “invalid reso blah blah”
No matter which box I start with, or if I uncheck the linked aspect ratio box, it won’t ever let me get to 2nd box to change the other number.
HOW DO I CHANGE IT TO 1080p? you’d think it’d be easy but what the?

YO Jon –
I’m doing another slow-mo edit and its been awhile. I can’t remember if I found out the answer to my few lingering questions. I was hoping you could help me..
OK so all the footage I shot is at 720/60p as usual. I’m doing slow downs to 24p and back to 60 within the same sequence.
here are my questions as they are all related.
What do I set my sequence presets to? 60p or 24p? Remember I’m using both within the same sequence..The slow downs are brief so my logic told me to set the sequence at 60p.
Next, when I export – do I check the same settings as the sequence? so if I used 60p as my sequence preset, do I also use that to export?
A little off topic…when I export, what would happen if I chose a different speed than the footage I was using? For example if I dropped 60fps footage into a timeline, no editing, and exported it with 24p settings, does it have the same effect as time remapping and all those other tricks, etc?
Im really confused with sequence/export settings and if they have to match the clip settings, and if they dont does it matter?

I just read up about CS5 today. I’m sorry, I should have done so in greater depth before posting this…
CS5 is the answer to all my questions…Except the timeline preset one?
Does premiere automatically adjust whatever footage you have into whatever the sequence is set at?
For example if I drop my 720/60p footage into a 24p sequence, will premiere do it for me?

thanks for the help guys…Had to go in there and read the old timecode of the footage, and recapture and edit to said time codes and THEN reconnect media. It was a long and painful few days..unfortunately “my boss” is not forgiving and I just lost my job over this…The funny thing is he has his footage exactly in tact like nothing ever happened…such is life!

Oh shoot I’m really sorry, I thought this was the Premiere Pro Basics thread! Sorry for posting in the wrong section. Completely accidental.
The reason why I’m working on two platforms is because my partner is on the mac and he isn’t too tech savy and I’m doing most of the importing/exporting/encoding/burning etc. We want to be able to edit independently and even simultaneously on the footage we shoot. He’s been using a mac for his entire life so that’s what he got a new MBP. I’m well versed in both and a pc man first. We wanted to be flexible and versatile with our company/production so we.. I wanted to have both. Also CS4 has Final Cut Pro project importing..so that’s the reasoning behind that..
Anyway, shooting on PMW-EX1 in XDCAM EX 1080p 24 and 30 fps. 720p 24 and 30 fps. All HQ. Capturing it by dragging directly off the SxS 32gb and 8gb directly on to my hard drive and externals. (Regardless of what people say, this works, dragging and dropping BPAV folders directly from SxS to desktop, both on Pc and mac). And just for backup I also transfer through the clip browser although I don’t really understand it, the mac use the transfer tool..don’t get the difference really..
As far as what we’re expected to deliver it varies. RIght now we’re all over the board. But we are always shooting in HD, regardless. Frequently taking the HD footage and converting it to DVD. Other times converting it to 720p for Youtube HD. Other times putting it back on the card for full 1080p display out of the camera..etc etc. Its not really relevant:
I just wanna know on Premiere Pro if I have to have my sequence match my footage resolution, or match it to what I want it outputted at? And why? Also do I have to render in Premiere? Isn’t that what media encoder does when I export? DO I have render and export? Seems redundant to me..

Hey Ryan one last question..
Why does it matter what codec or settings you set your sequence up in if you’re eventually going to use compressor to compress it.. For example I have 720p24 footage…Would it matter if I dropped it into a Sequence that was setup for DV (480) or its native XD 720p24? would it make any difference? its all going to be outputted using compressor to make a DVD anyway? is there any advantage to setting up your sequence with higher or lower settings?
