While I normally track all my hours, I didn’t on this one. I had a set budget that was a bit looser than normal. I’d say I spent a good 12 hours, though. I’m still learning FCPX as I go and it seemed like a good opportunity to play with the Sapphire Edge beta as well.

Thanks, Todd! I did use my 575w HMI as well. I gelled both HMI’s to get them closer to the warm overhead lighting. The client is very happy with it, which makes me happy. It is a major improvement over the previous ad which they have been running for about 5 years.

You’re right, Bill. I should probably give up this charade, ‘fess up to my client, and let them know that I’m just a wannabe hack using FCPX.

Thanks for all the input. I ended up renting a 1200w HMI. If I were to do it again, I would probably go with something bigger! Anyway, here is the finished product.

One version of their firmware included a histogram. I’m not sure why they discontinued that feature. My GH2 has its own histogram so it’s not a big deal for me. I did request exposure zebras at one time. I like zebras because you can still see the whole image, unlike a waveform PIP display that blocks part of it.

[Ben Edwards] “DT454 outputs a mono signal into both L and R headphone channels (it combines L+R). It does not state in the manual for the DXA-SLA if it is had Stereo or mono monitoring. For me this is very significant. If I have a lav in L and boom in R I want to listen to each independently (i.e. by putting my hand between headphones and one ear).”
Hi Ben,
While the DT454 does output a mono signal to the headphones, it is a simple matter of turning down one pot and turning up another to monitor whichever channel you wish.
I’m very happy with the audio quality of the DT454. Obviously has very clean preamps.
