You should be able to use any of the GH3 formats in FCPX without transcoding to ProRes. The AVCHD will be rewrapped to MOV. That’s how I do it with GH2 footage.

I prefer to just seat the talent on a swiveling, rolling, tilting office chair with armrests. There’s so much movement I don’t have to do a thing!

I do this so much I’ve become an expert, except I shoot in 1080p then edit in a 720p timeline. It makes editing so much nicer. I use the camera lcd and an additional SmallHD monitor with 1:1 pixel mapping so I can see both my wide and close-up compositions simultaneously. If I compose correctly during the shoot I don’t even need to adjust the framing of the close-up in the edit. I just apply my scale preset on every other clip and boom, I’m good to go!

Heck, yeah –I’ll be getting one! The GH2 has been a fantastic camera for the last (almost) two years. They didn’t mention price point or date of availability.

Let me explain! I use 1080p in a 720p timeline so I can simulate focal length changes in the edit. It is a technique that has worked very well for me. I find that FCPX scales beautifully. The good news is that I just tried setting the ioXT to output directly to 1080Psf 23.98 and it works beautifully from both the 720p timeline and the 1080p raw footage in the event library. I’m a happy man! Thanks for your input.
