I wouldn’t call myself a seasoned cinematographer, but I thought it was very well done. The green light gave everything a sickly feel and the erratic camera moves added to the urgency and drama, IMO. Besides that, I’m just really glad it wasn’t another zombie movie. Good work.

Just discovered one more way. There is actually a “Fade In+Out” effect. It allows you to set the # of frames for the fade.

You have a couple of options that I know of –there may be others. You can use keyboard shortcuts to make it faster. Select desired layer, hit “i” to go to the in point. Hit Alt + Shift + T to set an opacity keyframe. Set the percentage to “0”. Hit Cmd + Shift + Arrow to shift 10 frames down the timeline. Hit Alt + Shift + T to set another opacity keyframe. Done.
Or, when you are done doing that, you can select the opacity parameter and go to Animation > Save Animation Preset and save the fade as “10 frame fade up” or something like that. Then whenever you need a fade up you can drag your preset into the comp window or onto your layer. Make sure your timeline indicator is at the position you want the fade to start.

I cannot believe that you guys are editing on Windows NT. Any court of law would surely see that as cruel and unusual punishment. When I started editing it was on Windows NT –that was 10 years ago! I had to reformat the system drive and reinstall NT every six months just to keep the system running. When I went to Win2k I thought I was in heaven because I only had to reinstall every 12 months. Now I’m on OSX with a Kona Lhe and it is so stable, so nice. I don’t know how you haven’t gone crazy. Perhaps you are writing from the asylum… they let you out of the straitjacket just long enough to type in a few therapeutic posts on the Cow. Perhaps your therapist’s strategy is to make you believe that you are upgrading. I don’t want to ruin it for you. I wish you the best in your quest for mental health.

I think the others were commenting on the Datavideo brand in general, not specifically on their reflective chromakey system. For all I know it could be just as good as the Reflecmedia one. Lighting the subject won’t affect the chroma background unless you blast it with some serious wattage. They don’t recommend using it outdoors. As I recall, the Reflecmedia Chromaflex system with the 7’x7′ portable backdrop was about $2,300. I’ve used it with a DV camera and a DVCPro50 camera. It doesn’t make keying foolproof ––you still have to know how to use the system, but it does make it easier and faster because you don’t need to light the background.

That’s a ripoff of the Reflecmedia chroma key system. I have the Reflecmedia Chromaflex system and it works quite well. No background lighting is necessary.

How about the Zylight Z90? Color temp is adjustable between 2500K-9000K (among other cool features).

In the Display Setup menu you can turn on the ‘Video Out OSD’. As far as I can tell, the focus assist functions don’t go out to the external monitor.
