Gotcha. That’s interesting how the less expensive Matrox product will downconvert nicely but the much more expensive one won’t.

I beg to differ… The Matrox Axio downconvert is horrible. AJA is great, can’t speak to Decklink.

The camera guy did not notice it, but I was acting as a producer/production manager at this event. Furthermore, it’s my damn camera. If the gain was set incorrectly…it was almost certainly showing on the camera lcd screen. The camera guy did not see it nor did I. Seems crazy and unlikely but that’s the best explanation so far.”
I am very familiar with the PD-170 and if the PD-150 works the same way I can tell you that controlling the gain is a little tricky. If you are not seeing the gain number on the LCD, then the camera is setting the gain automatically. In a situation with plenty of light, you should be shooting at 0 db of gain to minimize noise. You need to push the gain button on the back of the camera to see the gain setting on the LCD. Set it accordingly. Again, if it works like the PD-170, the camera is automatically setting gain if you don’t manually set it.

A few months ago, a small local cable system here (for which I have produced some ads) got bought out by Comcast. A gal from Comcast called me to say that they couldn’t find a particular Beta SP master, so could I dub one, please. She was aghast that I wanted $40 for a dub, but agreed to it. 15 minutes later she called back, “Never mind! We found a DVD, we’ll just use that.” Obviously, their first concerns are ‘cheap’ & ‘fast’. I thought about calling the client and telling them that Comcast was using a sub par master for their ad, but, I’m not a troublemaker, so I didn’t.

The first part was right, but you need to just skip the code button part –then it should work; like this:
There are a few good wedding video companies out there, but I always wonder if they are really making any decent money. These guys seem to have 3 or 4 people on a shoot, plus all the gear; Steadicam, mobile system for edit, plus all the editing back at the studio. Having a nice finished product is one thing, but actually making a decent rate is another.

The shutter speed could be the problem. I typically leave the shutter speed on default and I’ve never had trouble going back to normal speed with it. If you want to upload a few seconds of footage I’d be happy to try it out on my system.
