I put a description of what I figured out from your file in the link here – https://f1.creativecow.net/6757/morphed-fix?uploaded=file

that might be a case for some expression skills as well. I could imagine a saturation shift on the color parameter could solve it, but yeah, for things like this, only need to do it once, so an expression is just icing if you’ve got it.

I posted this to the forum, but I think I didn’t attach it to this thread. First time uploading anything to the cow. Here’s a mock up of a youtube loading circle. Hope it works for you.

I’d have to say, recreating the look in AE would be near impossible. I’m putting my bets on some awesome shaders and a 3d app for this kind of rendering. But mimicking it wouldn’t be too hard with the Cartoon effect. You just have to plan ahead when you light your scenes and think in the perspective of everything posterized.

  • Since it’s all 2d and flat, why not use shape layers? First convert your AI layers to shape layers under the Layer menu – Layer > Create Shapes from Vector Layer – then animate the paths of your shapes exactly like you would with masks. Since you’ve got the shape in 3 states, I’d make a keyframe on the paths of the 2nd state, then copy them to the paths of the first state like 30 frames ahead in time (after setting keyframes on the first state of course), then do the same with the paths from the 3rd state. If you get some weird warping and rotating going on it’s usually because the first vertex points aren’t in the same place. Just scrub through the animation and watch where the vertex point is and make sure to set the first vertex as the same from one keyframe to the next.

If you want, I could mock this up for you and you could refine it. I love stuff like this.

Sorry, it’s under Stylize > Cartoon right near the top there.

Have you tried messing around with the Cartoon effect in AE?

I’m sure the expressions forum would be a good help for something simple like this. I don’t know how to write them, but I could imagine an expression tied to the Z position that affects the parameters of the effects you want to go from 0 to some value. Just make sure you detail what effects and how you’d like them to animate. I’m sure someone in there can help.

I guess what I should have asked is your client tied to the text morphing? If not, it would seem more aesthetically pleasing as well as make more sense to do an easier/cleaner transition. Just my two cents, but I’m curious how your final result comes out now.
