You are EXACTLY correct.

we are working at 24p and the timeline in Final Cut said 23.98 so I rendered to that…I’ll try the 23.976 render from AFX and let you know what happens!

I’m trying to understand all this stuff, I come from the AVID world and have always experienced AVID providing their codecs free so anyone can interpret the footage correctly. Is this just a SONY proprietary thing? Or is there more to it?

This product should work for my workflow…I just want to be able to intrepret footage edited in an XDCAM HD timeline on a mac into After Effects I’m running on a PC. There may be a better way, but I’m not a Final Cut user and haven’t worked much with a variety of codecs…

I’m doing exactly what you are talking about in this thread. I have someone who shot with the EX3 and has XDCAM native footage. I need to get a “same as source” type of file to composite with. How do you make the clips work both on the Mac and for my PC? Is that an option in the XDCAM transfer software?

What kind of footage are you working with? Do you use the Pro-Res codec? Is there a better workflow?

Most things he’s doing are being posted in HD and then downconverted to SD onto a DVD.

It’s a 6TB FusionD800 RAID connected (I believe) through a serial cable directly to the CPU.

I posted in the Final Cut forum as well…and someone made the suggestion of digitizing out via SDI and letting the cam do the downconvert.

I’m trying to get a fast import…there will be several clips. I think rolling from camera may be the best option.

AVID is on a PC. File names short…no odd characters.

Here’s a strange thing…this is likely the problem.

When I open the file in AE. It displays the dimensions as 729×486

That has to be my problem. But in Final Cut (I’m not very knowledgeable with FCP) The sequence is 720×486 … where are the 9 extra pixels being added? And why???

I think I’ve narrowed it down to that.
