It’s 29.97 and 486…I know that it needs to be D1 and not DV.

No…the test I did was only 70MB about 20-30 seconds.

I’m actually saying that in 20 frames…100 layers-inpoint would be distributed randomly. Obviously, there would be duplicate start times of some of the layers…but if it’s random, then they wouldn’t pop on in a consecutive manner.

Basically, I have a screen full of boxes with space in between…looks like a grid. But I want each box to pop on *randomly* so I’m using the script you gave me to randomize the in point, but it needs to happen quicker. All layers need to come on in about 20-30 frames.

I’ve actually solved the issue, I just pre-comped it and ran it at accelerated speed so it happens quicker. So I’ve found a workaround, but I’d like to gain a better understanding of it.

Thanks so much for your help!

    YOU ARE THE MAN!

    Worked perfectly…

Do you have a paypal account I could contribute to? That saved me a ton of time!

Is there a way to constrict the varying in points to randomize within a period of 20 frames?

    Dan,

I was able to use this script…very nice! I’m still very much a beginner with scripts and expressions, but I love every time I get one to work for me!

One question…is there a way to randomize the in-point of several layers? I’m currently setting the length to 1 frame…sequencing layers and doing it in segments of 20…and, after using your script…it gives a decent randomness to the in point of a layer, just wondering if there is an easier way?

    Hey Guys,

I appreciate the discussion. Both Josh and Daniel, you’ve given me good information to help me guide our company in a possibly new direction. I was just curious if using Sorenson was like the difference between Consumer and Professional level. Doesn’t seem like so, but it does look like there are maybe some better options out there for more money.

I love how the Cow creates spirited discussion, but I feel slightly responsible for starting a fight! Take it easy, it’s the Christmas Season…Have a great New Year guys!

    No problem Jiri,

I get frustrated at some of the features that others seem to offer that AVID just seems way behind on. But it’s a great interface and the media management is fantastic. I’ve only been working on it for about 4-5 years and I still learn stuff all the time.

Only way I would know is the second way you described…you can use your sync tracks to splice in one track and not break the sync between two other tracks.

The keypad is (or seems to be) reserved for only moving your time cursor…to a specific time code or a certain number of frames.

I don’t know if anyone works in After Effects as well as AVID, but this trick of using the period key to input “00” works differently in AFX.

I don’t completely understand why, but I like the way AVID handles time code input better!

Nevermind on changing color…figured it out. Used the help menu! Go figure…

I’m just going into segment mode selecting them and then double click the EFX clip and it ripples down.
