I personally liked the, “…putting Satan’s codec out to tape.” comment! It made me laugh…I’m working with a Canon XL-H1 and it looks great but is a b*tch to work with…for my uses anyway. Could be my naivety of the format though!

Another way to do it is split layer (cmd+shift+D maybe?)
It will split a layer in 2 pieces and butt the beginning up with the end…then you can just alt+drag to replace that layer with the one you want…not as slick as sequence footage…but I’ve used it in a pinch.

Hey Dave,
If you read John’s post…it’s not just cmd+D or ctl+D on windows…add in the shift key, it changes the result. Simply cmd+d will duplicate, but append a _1 to the end. Shift+cmd+D will result in an overwrite. Interesting information. Good job John!

Well…if you use that argument…then why did we shoot on Beta when the footage was mastered on VHS? Starting with a higher quality source will always yield better results when producing a lower res version.
My question revolves around system resources. In HD, is there a TON more render time vs SD? Obvious drive space considerations. But I’m just trying to find out what others do and how well it works.

Hey Brent,
I’ve found tons of problems with Adobe Media Encoder…your issues with Premier is because they both use the same type of processing to render. And Windows Media Encoder is never one I’ve heard anything good about.
You should probably try a more *professional* transcoder when rendering outside of *normal* specs. I’ve had a lot of luck with Sorenson. Episode Pro is very capable…and you could also try freeware – Erightsoft’s “Super” is a very capable program.
