Is it compatible with After Effects and Photoshop? It’s not on the list of supported cards.

[Alan Okey] “and I’m unaware of any commonly available Mini DisplayPort extension cables at this time.”

Monoprice sells one. I have dual LED monitors using this cable:

Here’s what I need to determine.

I’m using the standard Nvidia GeForce GT 120 card.

I can adapt the DVI output to work with my other LED monitor…but my question is, should I step up to a nicer video card? And which one? ATI Radeon HD 4870 has the same connections – DVI + MiniDisplayPort … is there a performance boost with that card?

    Thanks for your guys suggestions.

    Hey Alan,

I’ve seen these two adapters…seems insane that they cost 150+ bucks…just to adapt what must be a a *similar* signal!

I do have some extensions on my LED’s…my IT guy bought them…I believe they are Monoprice cables…they are 4 feet extensions.

    WOW!

I’m going to read that again…but I didn’t realize how SMALL broadcast video is. I would have thought it was a much larger market segment to drive the manufacturers…but I see your point of the computer market really being the driving factor.

There is SO MUCH information in that post…I’ll read it again after I put my kids to bed!

Thanks so much for that…now go take a nap!

[walter biscardi] “How many rooms are you outfitting? 1 or 8?”

    Only 1 edit bay…

Here’s what I’ve found with my research:

I need to get a card that supports DisplayPort. The Nvidia Quadro FX 3800 supports 2 out. However, it’s not specifically listed in the supported CS4 cards (although that line of cards is listed):

    https://www.adobe.com/products/aftereffects/opengl.html

And I can’t find supported cards for Final Cut.

HOWEVER, I then need to adapt the Apple mini DisplayPort to standard DisplayPort. With this:

    https://www.directdial.com/CAB-MDP-DPF.html

Anyone use this? Heard of it?

That’s what I found after just a few hours of research…

I’m very fortunate to now work for a company that allows me to get nice toys and work with the newest technology. Getting 2 LED monitors wasn’t really a big deal when I asked for them when I started. Unfortunately, I hadn’t worked with Macs before and had the misunderstanding of them to be widely compatible with other mac products…which I’ve quickly found out is not the case at all. I have a BRAND NEW MacPro…and BRAND NEW LED monitors. The MacPro says it supports the monitors…but there is NO reference to the issue of running dual monitor (which ALOT of people use today).

Anyway, I appreciate all the help…I’d really like to find an updated listing of video cards supported by FCS7. If anyone has that link…please send along.

    Thanks

I think I’m going to try to get 1 card with dual head / 2 DisplayPorts. Then get a miniDisplayPort to DisplayPort adapter.

That will be the best option I think. I’d really like to use the LED’s…they are really really nice.

I just need to find a supported card that has that functionality.

[walter biscardi] “Too expensive in my opinion.”

I’m sitting here looking @ LED and LCD sitting next to each other…and it’s a no brainer. The LED are so much more VIBRANT…clear…it really is amazing. It’s brighter too…I can’t match the brightness of each of them…the dimmest my LED gets is brighter than the LCD. I didn’t think they were that much different than what I used to have, but side by side…wow.

Shane – I’m not using them for any kind of preview…just to work. I have a 17″ broadcast HD monitor for viewing playback.

Here’s what my research brought up…getting a dual head card that supports the DisplayPort connection.

    ATI FirePro V5700

Have either of you had experience with this card? Do ATI’s work well with Mac’s and Final Cut? I’ve only seen people with Nvidia cards.

    So, what are you using?

Just not working with the LED monitors?

Using a single video card with dual DVI heads? Which one? Have you seen that adapter that I linked you to?

If I could have any pick of a dual head video card (money not the deciding factor) which should I choose for mostly AE and FCP work…a little motion…working mostly in HD? Corporate in-house production.
