Hey Bob,

Thanks for your input…I have it working and we’re moving forward…

The problem is I’m in house of a corporation and my IT guy (who has no video experience) purchased the card…I had no input.

I did ASSUME that the eSATA connection would be compatible with other eSATA connections…I guess I should stop expecting things to work together.

I got it working this morning…it was strange…

I had to go through a https://localhost/port# to get into a setup menu where I created an array…then was able to restart and it recognized the drive…then I had to create a volume through disk utility.

It worked much differently than the RAID I set up on my PC years ago!

I don’t do much conversion…I do occasionally run a live out through the SD channel of an HD timeline…dubbing live to a DVD recorder…but these are for one off dubs and I don’t pay that much attention to quality. To be honest, they don’t look very good…but then I’m comparing that to the HD timeline I’m working in! 🙂

I can tell you that the Max option is nice if h264 can be a delivery option for you…

One thing I’ve found in my working with it. I monitor everything through my mixer…I have my mac pro running mini plug to 1/4″ stereo unbalanced…there is a buzz in the audio – slight, but it’s there. The Kona (from what I’ve been told) is recognized through the FCP system settings in the audio options as an output…so you can output your system sounds (internet audio…music…desktop previews) all through your sound mixer with balanced audio…this is a HUGE issue for me. I’d really like that option.

I have a PC background as well (AVID)…have been on FCP for only 3 months and I have to say that I have gained a HUGE appreciation for FCP and the suite.

Yes, there are frustrating things about it…but all software has its weakness.

What exactly is your problem?

Compressor can ABSOLUTELY (granted I only have a few months experience) compress to ANY format I’ve needed.

Mind you, to go wmv…you have to have the flip4mac plugin – to customize settings…it has to be a professional version.

And with the new integration of FCP7 it doesn’t tie up Final Cut to keep you from working…granted, it’s a bit sluggish on playback, but you can continue to work while having a process in the background working on the same sequence you are continuing to edit. I don’t know of any software that can do that.

I’ve used (extensively) Sorenson, Episode Pro, Adobe Media Encoder (briefly), and now Compressor. And I can tell you that Compressor stands up next to and beats out in many ways these other transcoding softwares.

Ask some specific questions if you are having workflow issues…but I’d be willing to guess there is a solution with Compressor. An upgrade to FCS7 is a great investment.

Also, the compression forum probably has people way more knowledgeable than me!

P.S. I’ve just got the Matrox MXO2 with max and it transcodes to h264 files faster than real-time (only through compressor)…it’s amazing.

What would version 11 constitute? Is that just after 10.9? Or what would constitute a jump to the full number?

I’ve done similar with Zaxwerks layer tools…you can push elements all throughout z depth…

I did something VERY similar to what you are talking about…although I did have an audio to sync to.

Here were my steps:

Take audio into soundbooth and EQ out EVERY other sound except for the beat.

Bring that track into AE and convert audio to keyframes

Expression link (correct terminology?) the scale of the video layer to the beat (you’ll need to divide it by some percentage so that it only scales the desired percentage)

I linked an adjustment layer which was blurring my video with a vignette type mask (oval) to the same beat keyframes, so that when it scaled…it blurred slightly in a vignette fashion…it was replicating motion blur IMO.

That is how I accomplished what you are trying to do…

Still on OSX 10.5.8

Here’s a quick question…I’m new to macs and don’t understand the OS numbering system.

If Snow Leopard is a new OS, wouldn’t it be version 11.

From what I’ve seen…it seems to be 10.6. Which would indicate to me that it is just an upgrade step in a software’s evolution. So is Snow Leopoard just an update to Leopard?

I’m speaking completely out of context because I’ve only been working on mac’s for 3 months.

Yea…driver installed and updated…still not working.

Just wondering if there was anything special to it. I’ve never used the eSATA protocol before…so this connection type is new for me.
