I believe it happens when it has certain blending modes, or is used as a track matte.

I’m not saying another format….DV NTSC is a pretty standard codec that most non-linear apps will be able to work with.
I’m saying another PHYSICAL delivery — get an 8GB flash drive and send it…or a portable hard drive. Single large files on DVD’s have presented issues for me in the past.

This is pretty much true, what you are experiencing is out of the ordinary…so you have to track down the issue. DV-NTSC is a standard codec that every machine I’ve ever used will read…so you have an issue in your delivery method would be my guess…

U didn’t mention if you had tested on a mac. Does it play fine on the mac it was created on? How about a mac it wasn’t created on?

Do you mean he can SEE noise? Like static? or video disappears and all you hear is sound?
Sounds like it could be a reference issue…this will happen if your QT is linked to a media file…you’ll find that it plays fine on the machine it was created on but won’t on others.
NTSC DV25 19minutes comes out to 4.4 GB…so your size sounds about right. Have you tried putting on a jump drive? DVD data can get kind of strange with large files.

Also, since you mentioned you were super new to this…keep in mind:
You will get WAY better performance using ProRes in Final Cut. If you are using FCP v7, they released a new ProRes flavor (4444) that can include an alpha channel. It should be accessible as a render codec in Blender.

Quick question…because I’ve only worked with Final Cut Studio…can you buy FCP alone? Or does it always come bundled with the suite, including Compressor?

The DVD video specification (NTSC) only allows for ONE frame dimension – 720×480. That has EITHER a pixel aspect ratio of .9 (4×3) or 1.2 (16×9).
To accomplish what u need go do…you need to create a seq in fcp that is one of these settings, with black filling in the areas u don’t want an image.
This is to make a DVD video, this could also be done using a media player of some kind…

I have experienced this too. what I found is if there is any space between two clips it wont work with the keyboard shortcut. the clips have to be touching to be able to add it. again you can’t add a dissolve to the very last clip at the very end, because it’s not butting up against anything

Fcp v7 updated this, you can send to compressor and continue to edit.

If u use send to compressor, it does the same basic thing, although u don’t need to create an intermediate file.
