  • fcp wont recognise playhead position to use the cross dissolve insert quick key

    Hi there,

I am trying to insert a cross dissolve simply by placing the playhead in between the two clips and using the short cut command-T, without any highlighting.

I have always used to be able to do this, but now, and I’m not sure how or when, final cut pro is no longer recognising that the playhead is in the correct position between the clips to insert the transition and I have to physically highlight the playhead between the two clips by clicking my mouse over it before it can insert the cross dissolve transition, which is a bit of a slow down when im editing to deadlines.

If I didnt have a working mouse, this would be a problem and I prefer not having to highlight the playhead every single time I want to insert a transition.

Hope this makes sense, can anyone please tell me how I can reactivate this function?

    Cheers

    🙂

I have experienced this too. what I found is if there is any space between two clips it wont work with the keyboard shortcut. the clips have to be touching to be able to add it. again you can’t add a dissolve to the very last clip at the very end, because it’s not butting up against anything

Make sure your track’s auto-select is enabled in the timeline. It’s the little button to the right of the lock icon. Also make sure you have enough of a handle on both the outgoing and incoming clip.

Finally, if all else fails, park close to the edit and hit V before hitting CMD-T…

My money is on the auto-select being turned off.
