    thanks Mitch,

yeah, that’s exactly the problem…it’s not a hardward problem, definitely…the drives are fast enough (we’ve got an Apple RAID loaded).

by the way, have you had any other issues with the upgrade to FCP 5.1, as earlier posts indicated? I’m sending in my disks this week!

    Thanks again,

    Jason

actually, it seems that apple’s “fix” in FCP 5.1 should work, being that it’s an issue that occurs during a RENDERED effect.

thanks for your help guys…(It’s taken me awhile to respond because I’ve been offline for over a week).

Well, first off, it’s not a drive problem – even a burned DVD of the media shows the same problem – a dropped frame, but ONLY during
a cross dissolve or other transition.

secondly, in response to Jeremy, a frame rate of 48 in a 720/24PN sequence would simply record at 48 frames per second, even tho the file is still 24FPS (overcranking). All the clips play perfectly in slow motion – no frames lost – if I use straight cuts in my sequence, I have no dropped frame issues whatsoever. ONLY when I use a transition do I get a single dropped frame from the INBOUND
shot at the END of the transition (this issue is very specific to these conditions – I haven’t had a problem otherwise).

Regardless, I’m going to look into the fixes for this, especially with FCP 5.1.

If I find a solution, I’ll certainly come back and post.

    Thanks again,

    Jason

I’m sorry guys – CORRECTION: I’m using Final Cut 5.0.4 – I thought it was the latest version because I use my software update regularly – didn’t know there was a 5.1 out there until now.

anyway, will updating fix this bug? I’ll give it a try.

    thanks again.

oops – double-checked our footage…hmmmm…sorry guys – seems that all of our frames are intact. We did these tests after a LONG day in post. A word of warning – if you stare at the screen too long, you MAY lose frames!
