So I am intrigued by this type of video as well. I understand that one could just film a time lapse of the artist drawing. However I am wondering if anyone knows of another way. Besides the laborious options of creating layered files and masks etc.
Is there any software or filter for After Effects that could essentially have an artist using a Wacom tablet or monitor to draw the illustration. While the software records all the strokes. Then have it play back over a said amount of time. Thoughts?

“You can commonize those to your export format on export.
Is it possible that there is no need to edit the Sequence settings if all of the video clips are already playing back correctly?
Where it might be necessary to make the changes in a system that requires transcoding like FCP, perhaps it is not necessary in CS6 PP?”
So, I agree with Graham and think it is silly to not be able to change your sequence settings in PPro. Even if there is nothing in the sequence. So thats lame.
I am the type of editor who generally likes to standardize my workflow with processes like transcoding and other things that may not need to be done with CS6.
However, Michael’s post got me thinking about a process I do on occasions.
Sometimes I have a project that is shot 1080p. The first few rough cut will be done in 1080. Then we will change the timeline to 720 and scale up certain shots of the video.
Michael, are you recommending to do something like that in the original 1080 timeline and exporting to 720, right?
Will there be any quality loss when exporting scaled video in CS6?
Are there any other workflow suggestions based on the process I mentioned above?
Thanks

WOW, I am stupid. Why didn’t I think of that. That is a brilliant idea. Even better I could just make a background composition. I feel silly for even posting this one. Thanks for the help.

I own a 5D, and on my camera you can set the “auto power off” to the off setting. So in theory you could do what you have said… some of the problems outputting over composite is you would be recording in SD. The HDMI signal is in HD although it might be 1080i. Also it will not be a clean video signal. My camera will display all of the user info like record light, meter box, etc. Not sure if there is a way to turn that off. As for overheating, I would say there would be no issue. In fact I have not once had over heating issues on my 5D. I know other people who have had issue… but I just finished a 2 week show, 3 camera shoot, with no overheating. Probably depends on your situation… maybe i’m just lucky. But letting the computer capture the images as apposed to the camera is definitely going to keep your camera cooler.

So, I have had the same problem as Jonas ever since I have updated to FCP 7. My only work around is to use one of our old computers that has FCP 6 on it. If anyone knows any better workarounds or fixes that would be greatly appreciated.

It was shot on the Canon XL H1.“which easy setup are you using?”
HDV – 1080p24“How did you capture it and with what setting?”
It was captured through Firewire using the Canon XL H1. With the HDV capture preset, and the HDV firewire Device control.Note: When I open the clip in Quicktime and look at the info. It is correct: Apple HDV 1080p24, 1440 x 1080 (1888 x 1062), Millions. FPS: 23.98
Also: The footage works fine on other machines except the one i need it too. Although when i open it on the Machine that doesn’t and save the project then got the the machine the does work it doesn’t work any more.
