  • Final Cut Imports my clips with the wrong item properties

Ok, I have a really weired issue. I have a bunch of HDV footage that was captured. The source footage is HDV 1080p24, 1440 x 1080. Quick time reads it just fine, and so does Final Cut Pro on several machines, except the machine i need to edit the stuff on.

It is really weired. When I import it in to final cut and put it in the time line it says it needs to be rendered. And my sequence settings are set correctly. Because it works on other machines. So i go to check my Item properties and Final cut is interpreting the footage as 1920 x 1080 with Square pixel aspect ratio. When the frame size should be 1440 x 1080 and the pixel aspect should be HD (1440×1080). I am using Final Cut version 5.1.2, and I cant for the life of me figure out what the problem is. Can anyone please help.

“what camera produced this 24p footage?”
It was shot on the Canon XL H1.

“which easy setup are you using?”
    HDV – 1080p24

“How did you capture it and with what setting?”
It was captured through Firewire using the Canon XL H1. With the HDV capture preset, and the HDV firewire Device control.

Note: When I open the clip in Quicktime and look at the info. It is correct: Apple HDV 1080p24, 1440 x 1080 (1888 x 1062), Millions. FPS: 23.98
Also: The footage works fine on other machines except the one i need it too. Although when i open it on the Machine that doesn’t and save the project then got the the machine the does work it doesn’t work any more.

I figured it out. I trashed the prefs and it worked. I am an idiot. I should have done that first.
