This too worked for me on CC2017. Weird.

  • I’ll add one more thing for working in 4k. I edit a lot of Instagram videos where the footage comes to me in 4k but I scale it to 4:5. Typically once the footage is in the sequence I “Set to Frame Size” to scale accordingly, but this wreaks havoc on the paint bucket, so make sure you are using “Scale to Frame Size” for the effect to work. Took me some figuring out why the effect wasn’t working as posted, but there it is! FWIW I’m using CC2017.

Feature request? This would certainly be helpful!

Hi, I’m having the same exact problem. It’s really annoying! Been having it since CC 2014.

    EXAMPLE:
    https://youtu.be/RqT79AZgtJU

    Here’s what I am running:

Adobe Premiere CC 2015 (fully updated)
    OSX 10.11
AJA Playback Hardware (doesn’t matter if it’s on or off)
Mac Trashcan with 32GB of Ram
    AMD FirePro D700 6144 MB
    Promise P2 R8 RAID Drive

Seems to do it more with higher compressed files, but really it does it all of the time. Sucks big time.

Man that stinks! Thanks for the reply Ryan. Don’t you wish you could Mr. Potato Head every program you’ve ever worked on and combine all the best features? I feel like every new program that’s introduced is one step forward, two steps back.

  • OK I will take it one step further. In FCP 7.0, you could select multiple clips at once by drawing a lasso around them which put them in to wireframe mode. You could then go up to the viewer and move all of those clips together as one unit with the mouse (or nudge). This was EXTREMELY helpful if you had the layout of something perfect, but you wanted to nudge the whole thing 5px to the right.

You can do it in After Effects by selecting multiple clips and grabbing one property slider, all the properties follow. Yes, I know I could copy and paste attributes, but that would mess up the layout. I suppose I could nest the sequence, but there seems like there should be an easier way. When I try it, the preview window just says “Multiple Clips Selected.” Obviously! haha.

Also, any idea how to nudge with the keyboard, like option+ (left, right, up down)? That was a huge help to when trying to dial things in.

    Thanks 🙂

I have tried multiple older machines, and found backup copies of the original files and they all act in the same manor. I can’t open them with Quicktime 7 Pro, MPEG StreamClip, nothing! It says “An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie.”

I’d be fine with converting them if I had to, but that’s not even an option. Anyone else having this issue?

OK, now things are getting really weird! I tried opening this on my work computer, which is running 10.5.8, and I have never had a problem working from this machine before. When I get to those same exact files (the DTE firestore ones) it locks up. Reveal in Finder, can’t play them in Quicktime either. Everything else works fine.

I’m pretty doubtful that the drive is corrupted or anything. It’s specifically those files, and there others in the same directory that load up OK. If I try to open in Quicktime, I get “The movie could not be opened. An invalid public movie atom was found in the movie.”

Anyone have any ideas? Did these files expire or something? I can’t even open them with MPEG Streamclip to convert them.

    Very frustrating.

I too am having the same issues. It started with a bunch of “General Errors” when I got to that part of the timeline. I thought that was odd, so I went back to the original material on a backed up drive, same thing. Both computers running 10.7, and that’s the only thing that has changed.

This is seriously messed up. I am really wondering about Apple’s dedication to the professional market.
