  • Think I found the solution! At least – in my case this was the problem:
I created illuminating objects to reflect, which I gave a Compositing tag that hides them to do not appear in the render, only in the reflection. For some reaon this prevents them from appearing in the baked HDRI as well.

So the solution for me was: check the ‘Seen by Camera’ checkbox in the compositing tag.

This is a bug in my opnion, so I will report it to Maxon.

  • Hi Darby,

Did you ever solve the HDRI-baking problem? I am experiencing exacly the same.
Not all reflections are reflected 🙂 in my baked reflection texture.

    Hi Balazs,

I do not exaclty remember what the exact solution was, but one major thing we discoverd was that there was a device on the network that caused trouble. This came out to be a mobile phone that for some reason interfered with the team render network.
I think it accidentally had the same ip-address as the team render machine. Not sure – it’s working for quite a while now.

    Hope you find your solution.

My solution to this problem is creating the bulb material with a Fresnel on the Luminance channel. You can turn the Luminance very bright (>100%) and let it fall off to the edges of the bulb/sphere. With a little tweaking and in some cases adding extra geometry around it, with speculars or reflection, the result can be very convincing, and fast rendering. Remember that a light not actually glows without a moist or dusty environment (or a lens effect), so in cases where there’s only a clear atmosphere the brightness is the most important parameter to achieve the lightbulb effect.
