    Thanks for the tutorial!

    PS
Welcome to the eternity of the https://www... 🙂 Your post still pops up when searching for tips. While your great recent tutorial was not found (by me). Time for Google to implement expiry dates, of some other way of outdating technical descriptions.

All instructions on the page you are referring to, are with backslashes, so Windows only, I think. Just like the .exe file.

Great thinking of Jim! Simple as that – but I did not manage to get to it. Thanks!

  • Today I came across the very same limitation.

My arguments to convert H.264 to ProRes4444:
I am working on a montage with 1920×1080 ProRes4444 footage, where some shots are filmed with a drone-camera that outputs 4K H.264.
I want my footage to all have the same codec and resolution for the rest of the process – I have to convert anyway, so I prefer to go to the best workable codec, while losing as less data as possible. I gues the 4444 codec qualifies better for this than 422.
For grading 4444 adds more room ‘in between’ the restricted H.264 colors.
I like to think about color depth as if it where spatial resolution: converting a lo-res image to a higer res does not improve quality, but it allows to add detail.

Now I am going to render it via After Effects.

Same here – I was excited when I read about the effect (after not being aware of it for years….) Looked to me as a sort of node based compositing tool that prevented my Comp from cluttering with copies for all layers that had to be masked with the same matte. But unfortunately this effect only works with precomped stuff. Maybe we should make a feature request of this. But I think AE’s architecture, (where everything has a strict order of rendering) does not allow this.

Thanks for your possible solution, this helps me to find out how to install the manual update. (Although it’s quite tough to find the ‘Help’ menu in TR-client – it is hidden in the Console-tab)

Unfortunately, I still have installation trouble. In my case, the TR-update just doesn’t begin. I followed your instructions – removed the contents of the updates-folders. But when I start the update (whether manual or download), it keeps stuck at Estimating Time Left, with no progression.

    Any thoughts on this? Thanks!

For me it worked to turn down the audio mix -9dB (something I remembered from the pre digital broadcasting audio history). That worked.

    Hi Zach,

Hold down the ‘r’-key. I get a message that OpenGL is not active for the document window. Now trying to find out how to activate that. (Not any clue yet…)

    Best,
    Jan
