[Patrick Fries] “I wonder if the 250 will be considered an HD rated camera by the broadcasters.”

Well the BBC has recently approved the HPX371 as a Shoulder mounted HD camera and this is the same chip set, it would seem a matter of course. Keep in mind that broadcasters all over the world are using the HPX370 camera, in fact we announced one very large adoption by Sinclair Broadcast here in the US at NAB. They also purchased a small battery of the HPX170s.

    Hope this helps,

I am assuming that it is still copying and you should just wait it out. What did you do?

  • For Genlock, you will need to step up to the HPX250.

  • Hi,

I do not believe it is possible to put those effects out over the signal path. But as Noah points out there are a number of monitors that do this very thing. I would watch what comes out of NAB, there may be one in your price range.

  • Hi,

the HPX370 and the HPX170 ar two completely different cameras. The chip set is different and so is the DSP. Get yourself a vectorscope, a Chroma du Monde chart and a good quality monitor and match them as this is the only way you will really get close. You can eyeball with the Chroma du Monde but keep in mind they will always need grading in post to finish it. The chips sets are just that different.

The Gamma choice that would best look like the 5D-7D is the B-Press curve.

  • [Noah Kadner] “Yeah I suspect a Panasonic camera with the sensor of the AF100 and AVC-Intra for under $10K will be shown at the next NAB. It’s only logical.”

Sorry to disappoint, but this will not be shown at NAB. Perhaps to address what the OP wanted, take the AF100 and attach a Ki-Pro or Nano and that would definitely be under $10,000.

  • Hi,

So all you are trying to do is to set it back to NTSC? Go to the menus and find the System Frequency Choice. Choose 59.94HZ. Then the camera will tell you to turn it off and then turn it back on and it will reboot as 59.94.

    Hope that answers the question,

February 26, 2011 at 12:20 pm in reply to: AF 100 verses Sony EX camera

[Mike Thomas] “So in conclusion you’re saying if I had two HD cameras, one with a small sensor (with a DOF adapter) and one with a large sensor, there would be no difference in picture quality (assuming everything else is the same, codec, processor, etc)?”

Hi, Sorry for coming in late on this, but putting aside the sensor, there is a huge difference in the codecs between these two cameras. The EX camera uses MPEG2 and the AF100 uses MPEG4, H.264. This last is a little confusing as there are many acquisition implementations and not all are perfect for acquisition. That said, the AF100 uses a very robust implementation designed for professional work. Check out this article which compares the codecs. https://www.dvxuser.com/articles/article.php/25

    Hi,

Go to https://www.panasonic.com/AVCCAM. Scroll down to the botoom of the page. There is a white paper there that gives step by step instructions for ingesting and working with your footage.
