These guys are all under investigation for a number of shady practices. You will not get the HVX200 for much under $5400 if it is a fully equipped US product. If you want a warranty and a company to back you up, you should buy it from an authorized dealer.

Hi,

The HPX500 is like a 200, but it does a couple of additional things like it allows you to mark divisions in the clips using the Text memo. But all of the 200 stuff is in there. It uses a larger CCD and it is a 620,000 pixel imager vs. the 520,000 pixel imager in the 200. The pictures are pretty nice.

You are headed for disaster. Imediately, go to the computer store and buy a new HDD. HD footage stacks up quickly, so go for the biggest one you can afford. Also how are you managing your backup? You need to think about that as well, a mirrored SATA Drive would work or you could take two Firewire drives and mirror them, regardless, you do not want to be working without a safety net, especially if you are doing work for hire.

Hi,

The AVC-Intra board will be about $3000 and will be available in August. FCP can support it today with the Pro-Res version. We were showing it in our booth at NAB.

Lastly, Sony and Panasonic jointly worked on the AVCHD codec, Sony is not a part of the AVC-Intra camp at this point in time. AVCHD and AVC-I are very different codecs, yet related. AVCHD is long GOP like HDV, just more efficient. AVC-I is intraframe dependent, each frame is independent and because there is intra-frame prediction(which is where the similarity is between the two codecs), the algorithm is able to produce DVCPRO HD quality with half of the bandwith, D5 HD quality with 100Mbs.

The P2 Card promotion is over, and current promotion is the Anton Bauer Elipz Battery along with some Red Giant Software called Colorista Plus withis is a very powerful color correction software and Instand HD rolled into one package. It also offers Barry Green’s Book. It is a nice promotion.

As far as those stores that are selling for less than 5K, well be careful, most of them are Gray Market. This means that your warranty will be in the country of origin, which could be Japan, Canada, Puerto Rico or? Not that you cannot get it fixed here, but you will have to pay for it. Plus you will not qualify for the rebate offers.
