Really? I hadn’t even thought of doing it that way to be honest. So whether you can or not I don’t know…

Having said that, I don’t know if I’d really want to. It doesn’t seem that long ago that we were still doing offlines that looked absolutely horrible quality (I’m talking to you, Cinewave!). Now we’ve left those days behind I’m not so keen to going back to offlining at that quality again.

The 35Mb/s full res doesn’t take up much storage space, and let’s face it: FW800 or eSATA are so cheap nowadays.

    Ted

Just out of interest, hwo the hell did you manage to get a screen grab of Bruce?

Normally as soon as you even move the mouse he’s out of there so quick you don’t see him for dust….

    Matt! I can’t believe you’ve just done that…!

The secret location of Bruce has traditionally been handed word of mouth from editor to editor… as far back as FCP2 (though I don’t think I ever saw him in FCP1.2.5)….

Now don’t do it again! We all need the fun of searching for him in Final Cut Studio 2. 🙂

I’ve never imported a lower res than what the camera’s been recording (apart from the proxy files, obviously). And even then, the camera has usually been in maximum mode, so I’m not sure what the lower res is like.

But the data rates are so low with XDCAM HD, why would you want to bring it in at a low res?

    Old timers… OLD TIMERS!?
I remember when it were all fields round here…

Aaah, the days of FCP 1.2.5 on OS9… the joy of not even having colour correction, scopes, or audio meters. Come to think of it, in my day we didn’t even HAVE a media manager!!!

    🙂

  • The no.1 complaint?
I’ve never heard of anyone complain about that aspect before.

The only complaint I’ve heard of Media Manager is the bugs over the years. And they seem to pretty much have sorted that.

Stick with Compressor for most things. It ain’t crap at all.
I spent ages a while back doing tests through every compression software and Compressor still came out tops. Especially for its m2v files.

You can’t customise the mpg size? I’m sure you can. Not that I’ve encoded to mpg for about 5 years….!

March 8, 2007 at 11:50 pm in reply to: Would the real outpoint please stand up

I’m with you on this Walter….

It’s quite simple to see. If you’re inserting on the timeline and you set an out point then the inserted shot will overlay the frame AFTER the out point.

This is especially annoying if you’re cutting in using the ‘fit to fill’ edit. You’ve got your shot as you want it in the viewer but it needs to fill a bigger hole. You don’t want that camera wobble just after your out point in the viewer, but you DO want all of the frames you’ve selected.

To fill that hole you have to go to the start of the next clip, click back one frame and then set your out point. Then when you make your edit from the viewer the hole will be filled. Sorted.

I can’t understand how this debate has started again… I thought we’d cleared this up in about, ooooh… 2002…!? Next we’ll be moaning about Pinnacle not sorting the Cinewave OSX drivers and being stuck on OS9… hehehe!

Hmmm, looks like I’ve got even better reasons for upgrading then 🙂
