February 2, 2011 at 3:01 pm in reply to: Using After Effects on FCP clips

You can use this free script from Popcorn Island
    https://www.popcornisland.com/2009/03/final-cut-2-after-effects/

Take the shots you want to effect in AE, drop them in a new timeline, export the timeline as an XML file. Before opening AE, drop the popcorn island script in the scripts folder in your AE application folder. Open AE, under the file menu go to scripts, select the script from popcorn island, it will ask you for the XML file to open, select it and your FCP sequence will open in an AE timeline. The script allows AE to see the same media as FCP so you don’t have to export quicktime files from FCP. Once you’ve effected your shots, then export a quicktime as you normally do out of AE. I usually put the AE quicktime on a layer above the shots I’ve cut in the FCP sequence just so I know what shots I used originally and if you need to create an annotated EDL.

    Hope this helps.

    Cheers,
    Jamie

September 8, 2010 at 7:07 pm in reply to: rebuilding system…today – what install order?

Ohh…and I’ve never done an install of the FCS from a drive…but I made disc images on a portable FW800 drive…have you ever done that? I’m thinking I just mount each DMG on the desktop and the software recognizes them?

Just saw your response. You will have to mount the DMG files. I’ve done this before, but the DMGs were on Discs so I had to copy the the DMGs to the hard disk, then mount them and the install worked flawlessly.

Are you starting with a fresh drive?

What I have done in the past is put in a fresh drive, install the OS and run all the updates on the basic software first. Then install FCP and run all the updates. Then install the latest Kona drivers. Then add any additional software you need. I haven’t run into any problems when I do it in this order.

    Hope that helps.

August 6, 2010 at 7:01 pm in reply to: Timecode out of Kona 3

Thanks for responding to my post. The TC Burn-in has been a lifesaver. Right now I’m burning out to DVD recorder for a screening an hour from now. If you could add the flexibility of positioning the TC burn-in window, that would be fantastic.

    Thanks again,
    Jamie

Check out NASA’s website for maps. They are public domain and they have some high resolution TIFF files you can download.

April 30, 2010 at 12:36 am in reply to: Quick DVD Export for Client?

Do you have a Kona card on your box and do you have DVD Recorder? I do this all the time for my screenings. I set the Kona to send out a composite signal and turn on the read Quicktime timecode in the AJA control panel. I send the signal direct to the DVD recorder, that way while the client is screening the show I am making a DVD at the same time. You could do this as well without Timecode turned on in the AJA control panel and just drop the TC Reader plugin on all your clips. The downside to this is that it happens in real time, the upside is that it is faster than converting your footage to a DVD codec.

    Hope this helps.

I don’t think it’s a software issue, I would follow the aforementioned suggestions and also re-seat your Kona card and re-cable the Kona connections. I’ve had similar problems in the past and I fixed it by re-seating the Kona card and re-attaching the cables.

  • Fredy,

My church does live broadcast of our sermon to another room in the building. Since the Pastor uses Power Point we have to combine the images together and we use an Extron picture in picture device that marries the two signals together and broadcasts an HD image on a screen in another room. I purchased a Casio ($1000) projector for the display. I used Projector People (do a Google search) to make my purchase and I’ve purchased several projectors from them in the past. If you tell them what you’re trying to do, they should be able to steer you to the right projector.

April 6, 2010 at 1:39 pm in reply to: semi-OT – Best asset management tool

I’m not directly involved with the media asset management at our facility, but it is my understanding that we will be rolling out Blue Order sometime soon. You can check out their website here:
    https://www.blue-order.com/

Also, we use Pilotware for managing EDLs and assets on ingest. If you have to create annotated EDLs, it is a must-have. My APs swear by it.

March 26, 2010 at 9:05 pm in reply to: Cinema Tools 29.97>23.98 EMERGENCY : (

If you don’t get Cinema tools to work for you and you have to go through AE, use this script to open your FCP sequence in AE.

    https://www.popcornisland.com/category/final-cut/

I use this all the time to take an edited sequence into After Effects and apply effects.

    Cheers,
    Jamie
