Actually I’ve never had a problem with a QT mov and I don’t think most vegas users do so I guess that may be another option. If you were able to do a batch conversion of your P2 footage to a QT movies in FCP. It may be difficult to get a vegas user(or anyone) to buy a $150 plug-in just so they can edit P2 and it’s such a petty thing between Panasonic & Sony. I think it would considerable help the sale of more P2 cams if they allowed Sony to support their MXF codec. They are very nice cams!

Vegas Pro users have to purchase the Raylight Ultra plugin from https://www.dvfilm.com/. With this, you can either edit your P2 footage directly in the timeline or you can convert the P2 MXF files to AVI format with the software that Raylight comes with. Any of your future Vegas clients would need this and I would recommend that they download the P2 Viewer software from Panasonic. Then you could just burn your P2 files onto a DVD to give them. I’ve never used FCP so can’t comment on the 422 pro res but hope that helps.

I’m not familiar with that channel but you can try this. Generate a solid color from the media generator. Make the length for as long as your video is going to be and then put this solid over your video on your timeline. Open the event pan/crop for the solid and adjust the size to make it look like a bar and place it toward the bottom. Checkmark the mask tab and make a mask around the entire solid frame at the beginning. Go to the end of the event, move just the 2 anchors on the left and bring them over to where the other 2 anchors are on the right. By moving these, there should be a keyframe added automatically. The bar should now disappear as the video is played. Hope this helps.

Maybe Jay was part of that chain and everything chained off of his response gets deleted? Not sure though?? Just repost your question and I’m sure you will receive some very good suggestions and information again.

What codec did you use to render? I’m guessing you used mpeg2 and tried to play it in windows media player and you may not have this codec installed. If so, render it using mpeg1 or you can download a vlc player(just google it) and this will play your mpeg2 media.

I should note you don’t have to move your freeze frame to another track to make it 3D. You can make the current track you are using 3D.

Instead of taking a snapshot, try this. Zoom into the very last frame, the one you want to freeze, and split it. Change the velocity of this single frame to zero to freeze it. You can now drag this out for as long as you want it. You can also move this clip to a new track and make it 3D to give any Z axis movement. For the flash, I really like the ‘Dissolve – Fade Though White’ transition and make it about 6-8 frames for the photo-flash effect. Hope this helps.

I agree with jr, everything seems to be a 3-5 step process in Avid where in Vegas, it can be done in 1-2 steps. You can’t even change the opacity of an event or track without applying an effect to it. I feel more comfortable after 6 months with Vegas than 2 years with Avid at my workplace. If I could only get them to see the light!
