From what I understand, it’s not an Apple vs. PC, but a Panasonic vs. Sony thing, why Vegas can’t read that codec. I would have your friend convert them to Photo JPEG. I think the video looks really good and keeps the file size manageable. But if you want uncompressed you will probably have to go with Animation or None and have very large files. Hope that helps.

Thanks DSE. I used that just as an example but it does not add to the trimmer with P2 footage as well. I don’t remember this being a problem with DV footage though. I’ll have to check that tonight when I get home. Does anyone that use P2 footage have this problem?

    Thanks,

Try rendering to Sony AVC format and use the Internet 16:9 HD 30p template. This template is made for internet videos.

What version of vegas are you using? What was the footage shot on? What are your project settings? What are your render settings? We need more info to help you.

As always, good points John. I started with Avid so I’m use to the sequence workflow which I like better. But you’ve given a good example of how to make the Vegas workflow better in these situations. Thanks.

A sequence is a basically a timeline. Vegas only has the one timeline where FCP, Avid & Premier Pro you can have multiple timelines(sequences). Let’s say you have a wedding you’re editing. And you want render several different aspects of the wedding for a menu based dvd. You could have one sequence for the ceremony, one for the reception, ect. With Vegas you have to either create a new project or dedicate space on the timeline for seperate renders.

I really like Vegas too, but I am really disappointed that it doesn’t have sequences. Every pro NLE that I know has sequences! There are a few other little things Vegas could stand to adapt from the competition, but the lack of sequences is my biggest complaint.

  • Sorry Dave. I see what you mean now. For compositing like that I think you’ll need After Effects or a similar program. I’ve never had the need to nest project but I’m wondering if this could be a workaround for you. Have everything but your generated solid media nested. Then open your nested project in with pan/crop and mask what you need. Not sure if that will help but give it try.

  • When drawing or adjusting your mask, you need to have the Event Pan/Crop window open. With this window you should be seeing the same thing that is in the preview. Make sure you have ‘Synce Cursor’ enabled, located toward the lower left of the event pan/crop window. Now in this window you can zoom in/out with the mouse scroll to be more accurate. Use control + drag mouse to move the image around without zooming out.

No you cannot apply dissolves in an Architect slideshow. Like Mike says you could do this in Vegas. You could then put your chapters markers in along with your dissolves.

I believe transitions in slideshows should be a standard in Architect. Adobe Encore has such options. If you would like to suggest this to Sony, here is a link.
