Hi, thanks for the reply. Yes i already have this extension which i got recently as suggested by someone else.

The problem is also the rendered video, AVC mp4 is the only thing that comes close looking like the original file, and if i use the preview levels set to PC it does look close to the original file (as i see in VLC) in the preview window.

If i render to AVC mp4 and view the video in VLC, the colours are still not 100% the same as the original video, it’s close but i can see that reds are a bit brighter for example. If i render to most other formats then it comes out looking too bright in VLC, much the same as viewing the “original” setting with preview levels in the preview window.

So that extension is pretty much only good for rendering to AVC mp4, even then the colours aren’t exactly the same as what’s seen in the rendered file, it’s close however.. and I’m getting tired of trying to figure this out so i might have to just go with this, and then use levels fx if rendering to most other codecs.

Looks like I’ll have to make do with close enough, rather than exact.

Oops, forgot to say that adding the Levels FX fixed the colours for me while also rendering in x/h264. At least it looks accurate from my eyes right now.

Alright so i did a bit more looking around on Google, i tried a Sony AVC/MVC render as was suggested and it looks fine. There was also a suggestion to use Levels FX on the video using the preset: studio RGB to computer RGB, i did that and the render as well as the preview looks like the original file now and not kind of washed out looking.

I’m not sure if other video editing programs are like this, I’ll have to check out lightworks. But at least it seems I know how to fix this in Vegas now.

x264 & xvid look washed out after rendering, i did 4 different renders and only the bottom 2 in the attached image look as they should to me.

Does anyone know why this happens? I’ve done a search and some suggested to change colour settings in the Nvidia control panel, i already changed the dynamic range to full 0-255 and it hasn’t made a difference.

Mike, thanks for the link, so Vegas is changing the colour of the preview but it’s not supposed to change the exported video.

@Graham, yes i found out that even exported video also doesn’t look as it should. But it looks like what’s happening is that rendering in x264 is making the video look brighter, so it basically ends up looking the same as it does in the Vegas preview window even in VLC.

I like using x264 so I’m not sure why it’s doing that, i tried exporting to pal SD YUV & also MP4 and it looks the same as the original VOB in VLC. I think i messed with every setting in x264 and it always comes out looking too bright, or inaccurate colours/brightness at least compared with the original file.

I’m still not really fully understanding.

I rendered out this short clip from Vegas and it still looks the same as the preview even in VLC. So if it’s the players crushing the blacks how come it’s not doing it with this clip rendered from Vegas?

Well I’m not sure the problem is completely gone. I went to edit another video again and noticed a click in one particular place, it went away on its own. Weird.. Really have no idea what can be causing it except drivers or something else.

It’s odd that it sometimes seems to want to create these random noises, and there’s nothing in the waveform to make it happen that i can see.

Difficult to pinpoint what the cause is when it’s random.

I had already installed a Codec pack before i posted about this.

MP3 seems fine, still not sure what the problem is but i just saw the Resample and stretch quality in the Project Properties. See my other reply.

Hi Sam,

Thanks for the response, I don’t think i have any anchor points when it happens. Though i have just discovered that there’s an option in the Project Properties and audio tab, showing Resample and stretch quality, which is set to Good by default. I set it to Best and it appears the random clicks/pops have gone so far, setting it to Preview makes the clicks/pops appear all over the place in this one particular audio sample i have from the net, it’s 11,025 Hz, 8 Bit, Mono, Uncompressed.

Since the issue is sometimes random though i can’t tell if setting Resample and stretch quality to Best has solved it, but there is a repeatable difference by changing from Preview quality to Best with this audio sample at least, and the clicks/pops sound the same when set to Preview as they did when set to Good.
