Here in the UK, traditional offline edit shops run both FCP7 and Avid. I think many will switch to an Avid only environment with some PP.

FCPX is a tough sell for “preditors” as they cant easily interoperate with existing sound/online suites they need.
Which is a shame, FCPX would be a great tool for them to use.

[Shane Ross] “Here’s my workaround. Make a ProRes 422 720p 59.94 sequence. Put the footage into it. Use that as your source, then use another sequence with the same settings for editing. “

That seems work ok, its also ok to work full 1080p (!). Thing is, I need to make deliverables for an EVS system.
They are demanding 720p DNxHD which then dont import properly on my end and dont seem to work for them either.

I really think there is a problem with the new(ish) drivers. Seems crazy that no-one tested this with FCP !

If anyone has experience exporting or working with DNxHD .mov workflows, id love to hear from you

Unless you’re watching Superbowl obviously ;P

Thanks for checking though, will let you know if I glean further details

Yeah, thats what I get as well. Its not consistent and seems to knock out any further ideas. Maybe roll back to an earlier codec package ?

    Yes, 2.3.2 installed.

    Do you get the same error if you set-up a sequence at 1280 x 720, 59.94 ?

[Bill Davis] “And can also be seen as “if you need to keep working the way you always have – X is not the right choice for you.”

OTOH “If you want to explore other ways of working and your shop structure will allow it – then X might be a great tool to enable you to start to explore how editing might be done somewhat differently in what looks to be an increasingly “data driven” future.”

Agreed ! Do you think there will be further cross-over though ? I could see the other NLE adopting a keyword and tagging system ?

[Ben Scott] “I would also say it is crazy for your staff to learn 2 massive pieces of software to achieve the same outcome, go with one not 2.”

Thats doesn’t sound crazy to me mate !

[Bill Davis] “a program designed to re-think video creation workflows – rather than just keep doing things as we always have in the past “

Seems to me that you are FORCED to re-think and re-build thanks to no built-in FCP7 import. Which has now been magically fixed by a third party app

[Helmut Kobler] “2) The ability to set In and Outs on the timeline, and export just that section of my work. Right now, the only way you can export a portion of the timeline is to Export to Compressor, which takes a while to load, and even longer to set In and Out points.

Can it seriously not do this ? I ran into the same problem the other day !
