Avid DNxHD 720p
Posted by James Mortner on February 4, 2012 at 10:24 pmHello all,
Quick one: Anyone notice an odd bug where you make a 59.94 720p sequence and you get “Codec not found” error ?
If I switch the sequence to 1080i its fine again !
Any thoughts ?
James

February 4, 2012 at 10:30 pmThe 720p timeline is 59.94 fps. Perhaps the codecs from AVID don’t support this rate. Do you have the latest DNx for quicktime codecs on your ssytem?

February 4, 2012 at 10:37 pmYes, 2.3.2 installed.
Do you get the same error if you set-up a sequence at 1280 x 720, 59.94 ?

February 4, 2012 at 10:43 pmI have never tried 720p 59.94 as I live in the relatively painless world of 25 fps PAL broadcast. I will fire up the computer and check.

February 4, 2012 at 10:49 pmYep same here (codec not found). If I change the frame rate to 29.97 it is OK with 720p but not at 59.94

February 4, 2012 at 10:51 pmActually it is not OK at any frame rate on further testing in 720p

February 4, 2012 at 10:54 pmYeah, thats what I get as well. Its not consistent and seems to knock out any further ideas. Maybe roll back to an earlier codec package ?

February 4, 2012 at 10:59 pmI tried AVID meridian codecs and they work. Basically I can’t get any DNx 720p codec at any frame rate.

February 4, 2012 at 11:24 pmThats what I thought, just wanted to see if its just me or its common throughout the FCP land..
Thanks for checking though, will let you know if I glean further details

February 5, 2012 at 1:56 amWell I couldn’t either. That’s truly odd.
Here’s my workaround. Make a ProRes 422 720p 59.94 sequence. Put the footage into it. Use that as your source, then use another sequence with the same settings for editing.
I wonder why that happens? Odd.

That seems work ok, its also ok to work full 1080p (!). Thing is, I need to make deliverables for an EVS system.
They are demanding 720p DNxHD which then dont import properly on my end and dont seem to work for them either.I really think there is a problem with the new(ish) drivers. Seems crazy that no-one tested this with FCP !
If anyone has experience exporting or working with DNxHD .mov workflows, id love to hear from you
Unless you’re watching Superbowl obviously ;P
