yeah I have read the entire thread I just didn’t go back and read your original comments again. Sounds like what you’re saying is that for some reason when you set your project to match the footage (say 1080p) vegas throws out all the 1080p data once you crop using the pan/crop tool? I think that may be the case when using track motion, but I never experience said loss using pan/crop.
I’ll have to try your experiment and post some screen shots.

Jeff your experiment would appear to support my thought that one should keep their project setting = the largest raw footage resolution and then only zoom/crop so as not to go below your expected render resolution – else live with a lesser quality for those clips where you did exceed render settings. Except for preview speeds, I do not hear any argument that says it’s better to set the project to the (lower) desired render setting.

Ok, now you guys got me confused. I always set my project settings to match the native resolution of the footage. Usually, that’s 1080p. If I decide to zoom into a frame I never go beyond 720p because that’s the typical size I render and upload to Vimeo. When I render at 720p those frames I zoomed in to are rendered at full 720p without any loss in quality. Right? No different than if the project setting was 720p in the first place. But my method allows me to also render at 1080p and the only loss in quality are those events where I zoomed in. My titles and original footage remain 1080p. Other than slower full frame preview, what harm is there to keep the project settings at the highest to match the original footage?

Now that’s how you answer a forum question. Thanks Dirk!
Wouldn’t it be great to have a video tutorial like this for each filter which shows off its potential? I flip through these effects, take one look at the default effect and think “how would I ever use this?” Now I see, at least for this one, that there’s more magic hidden in the settings.—————

So what’s the definition of a long project? My music video was 4 minutes but had a color treatment added to 6 or 7 video clips at the mediaFX level that consisted of 4 different filters, Then add on to that at the eventFX level, lens flare or other effects and the drop downs start disappearing. Complicated and slow to render yes – long video, no.
BTW, someone at Boris opened a formal tech support ticket so hopefully they won’t close it until they found a fix.

Let’s hope Pete and the Boris guys can find a solution. It’s tough to use the filters without the position box unless you really know your XY coordinates by heart. I can’t remember if the problem occurs only when the position is animated or not but it’s worth looking into.
I also hope they take a look at the anomaly where my filters were duplicated at the media FX level. This occurred across my entire time line. I saved several filters as a package – several different packages one for each clip. Then after a crash, the filters doubled as though the packages were added on top of each other.
