The BCC8 promo has this cool caustics like effect being placed on a ballerina (see attached screen cap). I really want to do this effect, but i don’;t know how they did it. Can anyone help me?

    I am using Sony Vegas Pro 11 64bit, with BCC7 64bit.

    Thank you.

I did a quick screencapture with voiceover showing how the caustics effect was adjusted for that image.

One thing I didn’t mention in the screencap is that it can be interesting / useful to preprocess the source image (Brightness- Contrast or Levels etc.) in relation to how it looks when viewed through the Caustics effect. The sample shots I show in the movie have a pretty uniform black or white background but in other cases pre-processing might be useful / necessary for getting the look you’re after

Now that’s how you answer a forum question. Thanks Dirk!
Wouldn’t it be great to have a video tutorial like this for each filter which shows off its potential? I flip through these effects, take one look at the default effect and think “how would I ever use this?” Now I see, at least for this one, that there’s more magic hidden in the settings.

I suppose that’s where you could work in crowd sourcing. Users generate tutorials, community votes on their usefulness, winner gets rewarded somehow. The reward stimulates users to put more effort into generating better tutorials.

Thanks for the question, Paul and thanks Dirk, for the reply! There are a lot of questions that go along with using the BCC8 plug ins. I for one, find the video tutorial approach to answers a lot easier to understand than reading lengthy explanations.

Thank you very much for both the video and reply. It is very appreciated.
But I cannot seem to get the link to work. I just see a big dark grey area taking up the whole window. :/
