I’m not always the sharpest tool in the shed, so if I’m not understanding your question I apologize in advance.

There are two commands in FCP that may be of help, “Overwrite Sequence Content” and “Insert Sequence Content”. On my keyboard these are mapped to Option-overwrite and Option-insert. Editing from a sequence in the Viewer using these commands edits the original clips into the timeline.

Hope this was what you were asking for.

I cut the sequence at Kona 10-bit 525i 29.97. Client asked for a non-drop master. So I set a sequence up as Kona 10-bit 525i and change it to 30fps before editing anything into it. Cut and paste my material from the 29.97 sequence into the 30 sequence (the individual clips) and I can’t get the card to output any video. It will play it on my computer monitor, but my component and SDI output put up a freeze frame. If I go back to the 29.97 sequence, everything plays fine.

    2.7 Dual G5
    FCP 5.04
    Kona 2 2.0 drivers
    4GB RAM

As a side note, we worked around it by setting the deck up NDF, TC to Regen, and assemble editing from the DF sequence. Seems to have worked fine.

  • Aja has been great trying to work this out. Hope the bug fix works.

  • Alright, didn’t mean to sound contentious, I’m not so naive to think that just becausse someone announces a product that it will work. Years of experience with Avid, Discreet, Apple, and Pinnacle certainly makes this whole issue a raw nerve that just gets hit again and again and again. It’s explaining things to my clients that rubs salt in the wound.

  • Thank you very much for the info. We’re going to try ASAP.

  • Aja says they are working on a new driver to fix the problem. Not Apple. I can’t find anyone complaining about the same problem when digitizing through firewire. I’m not sure if Blackmagic claims to be working with Tiger/FCP5/QT7.

Aja put out this press release April 19:

    >AJA Video today announced that all KONA and Io products will
    >support Apple

  • From AJA:

    Hello,

We are looking to have a beta driver Tuesday or Wednesday of next week.
For now individual clip capture will assure AV Sync.

I’m guessing this is the last word unless someone has a miracle workaround. I think it’s time for a beer.

  • Kona 1.1.1 drivers and Xserve RAID update

  • Captured using the 1080i DVCPro setting.
