Editing from a sequence
Hi,
I’m new to FCP from Avid. My ususal procedure is to cut a “select roll” of my good shots into a sequence.
In Avid, I can use this sequence in my source monitor, and create a new edit by selecting shots from my select roll and inserting them into a new sequence “Edit 1”. In Avid, my new “edit 1” will show all the clip information, and I can trim as I want.
In FCP, my new edit 1 – the shot now says “Select roll”, and if I trim, it will trim according to the select roll material, not the original shot.
Work around is to copy the clip (s) from my “select roll” and paste into the new sequence. Or make a copy of the select roll and cut down. I don’t like to do this as it gets really messy, or cut and paste takes too many steps.
Any way around this?
Two other examples.
If I sync live sound recording in the Avid, I’ll build Sync rolls exactly matching the telecine one-light rushes. If I was to cut from these rolls – again I’d lose the original namings.
Example 2 – In Avid I can option drag a clip(s) from my record (canvas) side, into my source monitor, and shift it in the edit…say for moving an entire scene in a reel. Again in FCP – I lose the original namings and connection to original material.
I hope someone can help… it’s 3 questions but really one problem.
Thanks, Jane
