Not in my experience. I always have to send my DPX or CIN files through After Effects to make a quick time.

In general DPX compatability between software is pretty poor due to all the header data that can be used to store different information.

XNVIEW may be a usefull utility to view and convert those files as well.

That is kind of what I thought with regards to termination. But the only confusing issue is that if I take an SDI signal from the AJA in to a Digi-Beta and then take a composite signal out of the Digi to the same monitor I see no problem with the image.

Therefore the composite signal from the AJA is different than from the Digi. I’ve tried all firmwares and drivers with no improvement.

I can only conclude that my AJA is malfunctioning.

Hi Nick,

When should termination be necessary? Does it apply to all sources of video (composite, component, SDI)? Are some monitors capabale of termination internally? I’ve never needed to do it before and they only mention I can find in the manual is to terminate the ref signal.

Sorry for all the questions, it’s an unknown area for me.

After looking again at the two images (I don’t have a scope). It actually appears to be lifted not clipped. So that 70% luminance becomes 100%. Could this be a PAL/NTSC thing?

I’m working in PAL.

Not sure about the Igniter codec but I’ve been using Blackmagic UC codec in the same way and it works as if it was an AJA captured file.

Is there a link to download the Igniter codec and does it make smaller files than the Apple UC codec?

Hi Doug,

As far as I can see everything has remained the same as before. I’m using the AJA IO deck control via an RS422 cable and using the standard protocol that is selected when you choose AJA SDI 8-bit uncompressed from the Easy Set Up.

I’ve also tried a fresh install of evrything on a different MAC with the same result which makes me think it must be the IO, the cable or the deck. But I can’t work out which.

Hi There,

I just experienced a very simillar problem this last week, I’m using FCP and AJA IO to drop video only on to a Digi-Beta. I’ve done this dozens of times before but for some reason the Edit To Tape window no longer lets me choose insert edit (it’s grayed out). It’s almost as if FCP sees the Digi as a DV deck.

It’s driving me crazy as I didn’t change anything.
