I’m trying to edit to tape from FCP to a betacam PVW-2800 deck. I’ve been doing this on just about a daily basis for the past 8 months with no problems, but now it wont work. I haven’t changed any settings or done anything different that I can think of. With the edit to tape window open I change my device settings to my record deck (which has all the correct settings under audio/video settings), set my in point and drag the sequence into the insert box. When I do this nothing happens. The only time I’ve seen anything like it is when I’ve tried to edit to tape but forgot to put a tape in the deck. Any help/suggestions would be a great help…

HE FOLLOWING COMES FROM THE KEN STONE WEBSITE:
“Over 5,000 years ago Confucius wrote: ‘If you are toiling away, you have changed nothing and FCP heads South on you, [starts behaving in strange ways] then it is time to trash your FCP Preferences.’ ”

Click the following link for instructions on how to do this…

    https://www.kenstone.net/fcp_homepage/trashing_fcp_prefs.html

Another method is to use “FCP Rescue” a free Apple Script that will Trash the Preferences for you (and restore nearly all of your user settings afterward).
There are versions for FCP & FCE.

Download these free Apple Scripts at

I trashed the preferences but am still having the same problem. Do you have any other ideas?

Does FCP see your deck? Check control cable to deck. Restart everything. Repair disk permissions.

    Dual 2.5 G5 4 gigs RAM OS 10.3.8 QT6.5.2
    Cinema 23 Radeon 9800
    FCP4.5 DVDSP 3.0.2
    Huge U-320R 1TB Raid 3 firmware ENG12.BIN
    ATTO UL4D driver 3.20
AJA IO driver 1.3.1 firmware v21-26

Final Cut does see the deck, I checked the control cable and it’s properly connected, and I repaired my disk permissions on my system drive.
I have a playback deck, and a record deck. I can control the playback deck through the computer with no problem. As a test I just tried to log and capture from my record deck, and the only control I had through the computer was actually clicking the play button in the log and captuer window. My keyboard shortcut keys did nothing, and clicking on the stop, rewind, or fast forward buttons on the log and caputer window did nothing. Do you think my control cable went bad?

    Hi There,

I just experienced a very simillar problem this last week, I’m using FCP and AJA IO to drop video only on to a Digi-Beta. I’ve done this dozens of times before but for some reason the Edit To Tape window no longer lets me choose insert edit (it’s grayed out). It’s almost as if FCP sees the Digi as a DV deck.

It’s driving me crazy as I didn’t change anything.

Looks like the thread went dead — Has anyone figured this issue out? I am trying to master via SDI and RS-422 from FCP 5 to a panasonic AJ-SD93. Print to video works fine and I do have deck control via RS-422 — In edit to tape, everything is grayed out and I can’t change the tracks either.
    Any help?
    Thanks.
