Make sure you are using the right one- it’s not the FCP7 plugin (no plugins specifically made for FCP7 work in X so that’s always a clue).

That would enable you to view Canon footage directly in the Import window.

Crop vs. scale is the question- either you’re throwing away edges or you’re taking the entire image and reducing its size.

Sure it’s possible to copy clips between Events but I’m saying it’s not a good workflow for precisely the issue you found. You end up with double references to media and can lose track of which Events you want vs. don’t want. There is no real benefit to moving clips between Events.

It’s much more efficient to organize your material using the tools within Events- such as Keywords, Favorites and Smart Collections.

I don’t know what your deliverables are. If folks are only seeing your work on Youtube/Vimeo- than an RGB desktop preview is fine. If they are going to see them on HDTVs/Broadcast monitors and especially if you’re scaling beyond 100% you really owe it to yourself to get a proper HD broadcast monitor and see it in REC709 color space and 1080p resolution. Not the same at all as your 17″ desktop…

The latter- the workflow is not designed to move clips from Event to Event like you would with bins. It’s put the clips you want into a specific Event and organize them within that Event.

Kinda depends on your budget if that’s to be a real broadcast monitor or a consumer HDTV.

Sounds good- but even FCPX can’t overcome physics. I’d recommend checking your 1080p outputs on a high quality 1080p monitor to confirm the scaled resolution is acceptable. Looking great on the desktop is not always the same but ymmv.

Dragging a clip from one Event to another does not break its relationship, you just get another instance in the other Event. If you want to create discrete Events that do not depend on each other, drag media directly from your hard drive to that Event or Import it from the File Menu.

I’d drop a line to the developers of that plug with your issue- at the price and very specialized usage I’m guessing not too many folks have it so far.
